didgeflutes

Have you heard of em?

I did a search at Lark in the Morning site.

http://www.larkinthemorning.com

If I could figure out how to link a picture in I would.

Interesting instrument.

Make yer own.
Using the table of frequency/length at
http://www.mills.edu/LIFE/CCM/DIDJERIDU/technical/making_pvc_didj.html
you should be able to drill holes in the right places.

I made a sliding didj’ from two pieces of
1 3/4" dia’ pvc, and can get D down to the next lower G.
Cost £2.oo. To buy one £200!

I also made a D from 2 1/4" pvc pipe. It is very loud and makes yer eyes wobble when yer play it.

Have a go at making one :astonished:)

Reminds me of an interview I read years ago. They were interviewing this rock guitarist (don’t remember which one, now) and he was telling about the time that he was doing a sound check and the LED readout on one of his effects would start flickering everytime he hit a power chord. Kept calling the tech over to check it but they couldn’t find anything wrong, etc. THey finally realized that he was standing right in front of his amp stack and was cranked up so loud it was making his eyes flicker just right to get a strobe effect against the high-frequency refresh rate on the LED readout! (No wonder so many of the old rockers are stone deaf now.)

I have two digeflutes, both made out of the synthetic material that they don’t seem to offer anymore in Lark’s catalog. I got two because I’m always trying to get my guy to play something with me, drums, harmonica, anything, but he just isn’t interested…anyway, I don’t know about that wood model they sell, but the plastic ones sound good. I’ve played some authentic diges that eventually ended up in a museum, and the plastic ones I own aren’t near as loud, but the neighbors have asked me about them, so they aren’t too quiet. I never use the little tone holes, keep 'em plugged up, because the bell tone sounds the best. I would be willing to part with one–so I am now working on posting an image and arriving at an asking price that should be ready within the half hour.

here’s the pic, but I couldn’t fix the over exposure–it’s light grey blue not white

and I’m asking 45.00 including shipping in the continental US. It is in brand new condition. The plastic is a porous material maybe mimicking wood and the instrument is about the length of one’s arm, maybe a bit longer.
Anybody out there mastered circular breathing on the dige?
Lisa

Mastered circular breathing on the didge’ but not on the whistle - yet!

Practice with a small didge’, mainly because it’s easier re breath requirements.

Make a small didge from 40mm pvc pipe, cut at
86.6cm for a G. Get yer circular breathing ok on this, and move up to a bigger volume didge’. A bit like moving from high whistles to low ones.
