deiseal

Does anyone know where I can get this album??
sigh

From http://www.irishmusicreview.com/discs.htm#starc:

STARC

Dublin-based label which ended production following the untimely death of its owner; note its unique and utterly helpful numbering system (193 = January, 1993, etc.).

SCD 193 Deiseal – The Long Note

Good luck…

Wow. This thing is definitely impossible to find. The album sounds worth having, so I’ve just gone through every rare/out of print CD resource I can dig up. It’s just not there. Can’t find any info about anyone purchasing the Starc catalogue, either. There is mention of a few tracks from the album having made their way into a couple of compilations; that’s it, apparently. I don’t get it; did the master recording just go ‘poof’? The album was obviously well thought of, back in the day. Weird.

Sez here that “The band hope to be able to sell its CDS/MCS from C.Breatnach’s website in the future.” So, on Breatnach’s site, under “news and gigs,” we find, "Deiseal play second concert in Belfast on September 30, 2006, at the Open House Music Festival. For more details log onto www.openhousefestival.com ". A couple of clips here… that may be all we ever get.

But I have a feeling you already know all that, Amar. Sorry; I tried.

So are you going to Belfast in about a month, or what?

If the company is kaput and the album you want is no longer being published, I would guess your best bet would be to continually scan eBay … like forever …

I know that sounds hopeless, but this spring I finally found a copy of an LP I had been looking for for 20 years. It was for sale on eBay at some childrens’ second-hand bookshop in Ireland. Serendrip … er … drippidy … uh … dippity … doo-dah …

I searched our library’s database and the hundreds to which I have access, and I also couldn’t find it.

Sorry.

There’s no need to scan. Just do one search and save it. With such an uncommon name, you’ll only have to run one search. And each lasts up to a year.

P.S. Amar, ask your local libraries. Ask all of them. And ask (or have your libraries to ask) Irish libraries.

Dang you beat me to it, I was thinking inter-library loan.

It’s what I do. Fewer and fewer libraries nowadays will loan media (CDs, DVDs, VHSs, etc.) out to other libraries, but at the very least if you use interlibrary loan you will become aware of the existance of a copy, if one is found (but you will probably have to ask–at my library at least if we source a noncirculating book or other item, will decline the request and don’t always tell the patron why since they usually don’t want to know).

Very few if any independent labels get collected by libraries, especially in the very small quantities that these albums are issued in.

eBay searches disappear much more quickly than that (even thought they’re not supposed to). And unless you go to each international eBay site, there is no way of knowing that your search actually extended to all these other sites. That has been my experience, at least. YMMV

You might be surprised if you visit my library, then. We have hundreds and hundreds of independent label releases. As my second job I work at college-sponsored concerts and they often give the library some of their CDs.

If you are willing to do an undercover raid on my parent’s house in England, the CD is sitting in a cardboard box in the attic.

Mukade

Thanks everbody for your responses. Mukade…tempting…

Or you could hop a plane and come to Virginia. It’s on my dad’s shelf. And they’re out of town this week.

Mark

one of my chiff friends here said he’d make a copy, and send it to me.

Gawd, I love this place!!!

Aw darn, I was about to follow up a lead for you…

well, of course i’d prefer to have the real album instead of a copy.. .
