I’m going to see if I can carve that face into a pumpkin, come Samhain.
Things have been a little slow here at the pub, so I will post just to help keep the momentum, or lack of it, going somewhere. I was sitting out on my patio is evening. I could see the moon, Venus (or is it Jupiter in the current sky), and some low lying clouds rolling by. However, as hard as I tried, I couldn’t see the Dark Clouds of the Carina Nebula. They sure are spectacular in the photo, however. In fact, I never am able to see most of the stuff that Denny posts, and I have a pretty good pair of binoculars.
Jupiter, closest to Earth since 1963…opposite sun thing
I can’t see any of that stuff either…too much light pollution
I’m only joking, or course, about being able to see what only a high-powered telescope can see under optimal viewing conditions. With the humidity, haze, and light pollution here in the city, you can’t expect to see too much, even with bird-watching binoculars. However, when I lived in a small town (100 people) in southern Arizona, only a few miles from Kitt Peak Observatory, I could easily count a million stars in the sky.
