Bart,
You’ve left out over half the intermediate to upper end whistles. Check out the main Chiff & Fipple site under Expensive](http://www.chiffandfipple.com/Expens.html%3EExpensive) whistles
Missing from your list are
Abells, O’Riordans, Burks, Roses, Sindt, Thin Weasels, Water Weasels, Tully, Swayne, Seery, Parkhurst, and Grinter. Also The Dixon come in almost all the keys, tunable and non-tunable.

If you check in the Buying](http://www.chiffandfipple.com/Buying.html%3EBuying) on the Net page on C&F and go to each of the vendors, you’ll find a large number of whistles currently available, without even contacting any of the makers. Many of the highend maker only sell directly, so you have to check with them.

If you find a whistle not on Dales lists on C&F, drop a note to Dale. I’m sure he’ll appreciate it and add it to his list.

Thanks! I missed that completely. Ok, so added to the list are Abells, O’Riordans, Burks, Roses, Sindt, Glenn Schultz’s Weasels, Tully, Swayne, Seery, Parkhurst, and Grinter, I also amended the Dixon to cover all of the keys. A lot of the high end whitles are really beautiful! Ok, what do you think is the most beautiful looking whistle? There are three that get my vote, a Rose (The black wood and the brass, gorgeous), a engraved Harper (Very elegent), or The original Clark (I’ll admit it, I do like the gold diamonds). I’m going to make the list up in to a table so it will be easer to view and I won’t waste space posting it again and again. Thanks again:-)

Don’t forget Mid-East whistles (made in India). The mid-east.com site (the American importer) has brass pennywhistles in high D, C, B, Bb, A, and low G. And they have low D in nickel plated. Also cane whistles in D, C, B, A, G, low F, low E, and low D.

Ahem, Clarke has an E to it.

Waltons also make the Mellow D which is of wider bore than most Ds, in Brass and Nickel barrels, as well as the normal bore D in Brass and Nickel.

Feadog make a variety of coloured coated D whistles, my favourite being in Black. These can be found in Irish tourist shops.

There is a Clarke Celtic Sweetone with celtic-like patterns on it, I’ve seen one in a green finish, as well as a spectrum of colours of the normal Sweetone, plus natural (no coating).

Nabi & Sons (of India) make a variety of bamboo whistles, I have one in D and it’s suprisingly good.

Clare whistles come in one piece or two piece, in D.

Doolin whistles ditto, also manufactured in county Clare I think.

If you’re counting different fipple colours, Generation allegedly do a Green “Folk” Fipple, though I’ve never seen one myself. Feadog Fipples mark II and III are still available in the shops, black on the Nickel Barrels and Green on the Brass Barrels.

good luck with the list! Martin

Cooperman still makes whistles. They offer a rolled tin whistle in D, a maple wood whistle in D, and a persimmon wood whistle in D. Their whistle page is at http://www.historylives.com/level.shtml?37 .

Also, there are some rather unusual-looking brass whistles available from the following site: http://www.blockaderunner.com/Catalog/catpg29c.htm It doesn’t list what key they’re in, and the same site also offers the tin Coopermans I mentioned already.

To add to your Silkstone list, I believe there is a new D+ model out now.

And you missed Alba and Howard.

Don’t forget the Kerry Low D and the Kerry PROs whistles.

Joe

There definitely is. Thom tried to sell me on the D+ (modal D) when I recently got my alloy D. I fretted over it, and eventually decided I was an old dog, and didn’t need new tricks. The very next week, the singers in my band handed me sheet music to 3 songs they wanted to learn, and I kid you not, the sheet music as written all could have used the modal d (hitting that C below D)! Grr!

No one has mentioned Copeland yet.

Oh, yes, someone has.

Hello,
List of Susato Whistles is incomplete.
We also make low -G-,-F-,-F#-,-E-,-Eb-,-D-,
and a low -C-. Models are two-piece
tuneable (Kildare) and one-piece non-tuneable
(Dublin) Check out our website at http://www.susato.com for all whistles available.

Mike

Don’t forget Reyburns. As far as elegance is concerned, in metal whistles the Howard brass high D is a strong contender.

Elfsong Whistles out of BC (There is an old thread somewhere with a link to thier website) and Erik the Flutemaker’s Dublin bamboo whistle.

Cheers,

Stef;

Mike at “SUSATO”

I think you missed ALba. Don’t take this as an endorsement though. I have one and it is beautiful to behold and finished masterfully. Just doesn’t sound all that great (at $150) and requires standby oxygen. The collector in me won’t part with it. Philo

Hey there bart, just found this chiff & fipple thing. saw your reference to nova scotia. I was hitching through there 'bout three years ago and left a low Eb whistle in the red shoe pub in Mabou, inverness county. I made it for the pub with some plumbing and a chainsaw file. Can’t remember it too well but think it played O.K. Big stretch for bottom hole though. Made a Bb whistle for a wee lassie in a nearby farm too where I stayed. You anywhere near those parts? Awesome part of the world, might emigrate there!!
P.S you can buy Susatos in halifax in a wee shop near a library and not far from a college or something.

Anyone mentioned the Laughing Whistle?
I want one but…

Steve

Let’s also mention Bingamon’s Jubilee whistles.

Available in PVC models or in copper in:

A
Low A
Low G
Low F
Low E
Low Eb
Low D
Low C
Low Low Bb
Low Low A

Also available in “small hand” hole spacing.

With interchangeable flute mouthpiece available for some models (a great idea, like Dixon)

And brass models in high keys
C
D
E
F
G
Bb

High models also include one with a tassle a la Captain Picard, and a double model.
