How Many Do You Own?

Hi Folks… I’m a newbie to this forum.
Just wanted to let you know that I appreciate all the info given here. A great place to be:)

I have a question that more than likely has been asked before. Please humor me though:)

To all of those Penney whistle junkies out there. Just how many do you now own?

I own a humble nine of 'em. I used to own more. Those were the cheaper beginner ones. I gave those away to family and friends who I thought I might turn onto the addiction.

One of my cheaper whistles I totally destroyed the mouthpiece. And those of you whom have done this before know exactly what I mean about getting the water too hot..

So Fess up…Be proud of your O.B. (obsessive behavior)

I have two more whistles that should be shipped sometime this month… but that does not count yet:)

Mmm, let’s see…

A quick rough count shows I’ve pared my collection down to just over 40 whistles. Probably 25% are Overtons, 25% are cheapies, the rest a combination of Sindts, Water Weasels, Thin Weasels, Copelands, O’Riordans, a Rose, Abells, and the like.

Hey, I’m doing well, I’ve really pared down!!

Didn’t include my 3 flutes in that By the way. (My Ironwood Healy is up for Sale if anyone is interested)

Loren

I’m still starting out and have limited whistle funds…

Three Susato (3 bodies, two heads): C, D, Bb
Two Dixon: tunable D, nontunable D
Generation High G

I also have two whistles on order: a Laughing Whistle collapsible D and a Fred Rose D.

If you count the cheapies, I guess I have close to a hundred. If you don’t count the cheapies, it’s somewhere around 70.

Jessie

This is easy. . .four inexpensive D’s, the Burke D, 2 Walton C’s (aside to Bloomfield: which I love just the way they are!I hear the low C just fine ) a Generation Bflat, Burke and Susato A, Cheiftan G, Kerry low D. Twelve! And I’m done, I tell you. . .not another whistle is coming into this house!

Well, not this week, anyway.

I’ve been whistling only since this past summer. Asterisked are favs.
Susato: DCBb set, low G,F,E
Hoover: narrow* and traditional bore D
Clarke: Sweetone* D
Shaw: sop D*, mezzo A on order
Feadog: D
Clare: two piece D
Copeland: sterling D on order
Laughing: sop telescope D on order
Parkhurst: CBb set on order
Sindt: sop D on order

also, Hall Crystal D flute, Sweet maple D flute, Sweet blackwood D pic, shakuhachi, Persian ney, Turkish kaval

I sold 8 different keys of bansuris, a tenor recorder, a quena, and one concert boehm for the cash to buy whistles–my case of FOCD (Flute obsessive compulsive disorder) was replaced by WhOA.

Inexpensive:

Clarke D, C, SweeTone D
Generation G, F, Bb
Clare D
Susato D, C, low-F, low-D
Jubilee low set w/F, D, C, Bb, A
Jubilee low-C brass

Mid-high end

Weltmeister D
Water Weasel Eb, D, C set
Water Weasel Bb, A, low-G
Burke WBB D, Al Pro low-D and low-C

I hope that I’m going to slow down in my acquisition. My wish list includes a few more Burkes and to fill out my WW collection. Further down the road are a Thin Weasel or two, maybe some Sindts and O’Riordans.

Charlie

Whistles:

Copeland high D brass, high D nickel, high C brass, low D brass

Burke al-pro low D

Harper G/A set

Killian O’Briain improved high-D

Generation E-flat, D, B-flat, all modified

Flutes:

1857 Metzler cocus 8-key

John Ruzten keyless

Aulos plastic baroque

M&E polymer keyless

I have:
Feadog D
Susato D
A mystery whistle in D (I found it at a fleamarket)
Sweetone C
Generation C
Generation F
Ralph Cook Low D
And I have a Low-low A coming from Jubilee music. Wish me luck on playing that one.

I also have my beloved anonymous German flute
and a Dixon 2 piece flute (my indestructable
back up)

I own one. A Walton Guiness D. I’m not like those others. Those with WhOA. I just have one. However, I just bought it yesterday.
Heh…heh I just haven’t had time to let the psychosis set in yet.
I will be getting a Kerry Low D as soon as we stabilize the winter financial woes. Just like most others, the whistle purchases have to take a backseat to those silly things like electricity and food.

(Edited because I put the wrong name for the whistle I want. I was reading about Dixon whistles before I wrote this, and wrote Dixon where it should say Kerry. I noticed this when looking for one of my posts.)

  1. 4 of them in “D”

WOW!

This is a good way to see what whistles are the most popular..

Did not realize every one would list what types of whistles they own.

Let’s see. I own a few susatos Low Eb, D,C,B, Bb and A… Chieftains G, D,
and a sweetheart D. Geez seems a wee bit of a small collection as compared to most of you.

If only I still had my cheapies.

Always too many and never enough!

nearly 70, but I keep discovering whistles all over the place. Must have mislaid them some time ago

Let’s see after about 2 years, I have 16 or so. I put astriks following my current favorites.

Dixon: soprano D tunable*, C tunable* (2nd set).
Burke: soprano D NarBoreComp**, tenor D composite.
Susato: Soprano DCBb set.
Chieftain: sopranon D tunable and alto G tunable.
Shaw: Alto G.
Chieftain Gold: A ** (MIA in TX).
Overton (Colin’s): alto F** and tenor D*****.

2-3 give-away (inexpensive) whistles left out of about 2 dozen.

Flutes: Dixon PVC 1-piece, Ralph Sweet Cherry Keyless in D. Dixon 3 piece polymer D**.

…about 20
of the inexpensive ones I only play the Clarke, 2piece Clare and Oak D and Generation Bb

further:
Hoover Narrow Bore D
Shaw A
Chieftain D and Low D
Overton A and Low D

and the latest aquistition: A blackwood Rose D, which is a GEM!

Sindt due in March
Overton Low F due in April/May…

Lots of things to be happy about
