I got my credit card statement today and found two charges that looked suspicious. Turns out that dozens of other Nashbar customers had the same or similar problems. I know there are quite few bicyclists on Chiff, some may have ordered from Nashbar. I can’t prove it was them, but my story is very similar to those posting at the link below, with identical merchant names. Yikes!
I called the credit card company to dispute the charges. There will be some paperwork, but it looks likely that all the suspicious charges will be taken off.
But you should be aware that there was a big security breach in New Jersey earlier this year and a vast quantity of credit card data (world-wide!) was stolen.
I’ve had strange and suspicious purchases turn up on my card, this year, nothing to do with Nashbar. We’ll hear more of this.
Tom had a debit card that he only used as a credit card. It was “compromised” over Memorial day weekend - when I caught it “they” had already taken $4000+ from our account to various charges.
We cancelled the card and he now has a regular credit card. We got all the charges back (took about a month). The bank stated that one way this often happens is restaurants - when the wait staff takes the card away to be processed.
I’ve also had my credit card compromised twice - both times were due to “number break ins” as Innocent Bystander was detailing. Both time I wound up with a new card, and had to go through changing all the accounts linked to it.
