Cracked SweeTone Mouthpieces

Last night I pulled out my two SweeTones (a D and a C) for a change of pace, only to find that both mouthpieces had cracked, starting from the joint end. I’ve had them (and played them from time to time) for about a year. Anyone else had this happen?

I have had this exact same thing happen, with a Sweetone D. It was, and is still, my best one.

I used teflon tape to snug up the fit on the shaft, and then wound the fipple about with electrical tape to hold everything tightly and stop the crack from spreading further upwards.

So far, so good. Looks a little on the “well-used” side, but still plays easily and responsively.

I can’t promise this would work for you, though, or even how long it will work for me before the whistle finally dies.

Best wishes,

That happened to my Gen F.

Plastic cracks.

I’ve cracked a couple of sweetones. I suspect it was from removing the heads and adding too much teflon tape on the shaft before putting them back on. I think it put them under stress.

I tried superglue on one, and it held for a few more months, but the crack was so narrow I’m not sure how much glue really got in the crack. I’ve been tempted to try epoxy glue & a hypodermic needle…

Of course, buying a new Dixon would avoid those potentially harmfull fumes…
