Why this man stopped playing the flute? I think he only playes the whistle now.
His playing in the Live Donnald Lunny recording sounds to me absolutely brilliant.
Is that the one with Matt Molloy? I have no idea why he doesn’t play the flute much anymore. I think he got caught up with the jazzy sound of the low whistles.
Yes, the same, but in that youtube recording his playing can´t be heard good enough. I suggest everybody to listen his work with The Donal Luny Band in the live recording the did in the early 90´s. Fantastic work.
Regards.
Whistle? What a waste…
I think the same!!! ![]()
you do realize, Smoro, that Cormac is part Espanol.
I believe his mother is Basque or at least Catalana.
not many of us with parents from both Ireland and Spain
Yeah David, I know he is half Irish half Spanish in some way, actually his full name is Cormac Juan Breatnach.
It is curiosous, this mix seems to be very powerfull in terms of flute playing, like yourself too. ![]()
BTW,when you were in Madrid some months ago you played with a good friend of mine, Gabi, powerfull tone, Olwell flute, for sure you will remember. He told me that it was a great time that time.
Best Regards.
Hi lads, is there ITM in Madrid? Where? Gracias
I live in Seville but I know there´s a couple of good sessions in Madrid everyweek.
The most famous one is in “Taberna Elisa”, a pub in city Center, on Mondays I think.
The other place is "El Leon de Oro·, but not sure if this is the exact name of the pub.
Maybe someone can add more information.
Regards,

yes, I remember Gabi. It was a fun time, especially playing with the piper. Many tunes. Just wished i had more than a single evening to play and only had a travel flute with me, not my main player.
The session at Taberna Elisa was really very good, though especially difficult to find. The numbering on the street was whacky (no small surprise). Worth stopping in. It’s a small stage, but they were pretty accommodating and after a couple tunes the bartender was happy to cover my drinks. Can’t remember what time we finished but it was pretty late.
Oh…and Smoro…i didn’t realize you were in Seville.
My brother lives in San Lucar. I was there the following week after Madrid. How funny.
Next time, we’ll hook up for tunes.
Sure David, next time you came here don´t hesitate to contact me. You will enjoy our session. I am looking forward to have a talk about Rudalls too.

I had a oportunity to meet Cormac last Saturday in Button Factory - he was playing as part of the Big Bang Festival.
I asked him a question that started this thread and The Whistle Collector was absolutely right.
he likes the jazzy sound of a low whistles so much that he started to play them more and more.
he was very happy as he was able to buy back his first flute - AFAIR it’s described in interview that was/is on chiffandfipple website.
this guy should play more gigs.
