Converting Lefty drones

So, i have had my eye on those left handed drones on uilleann obsession for some time. The only problem is that i play right handed (even though i write left handed…thats pretty screwed up). Anyway, are there any posiblities for shifting the drones around to make it more like a right handed drone set? Would this create problems? Thanks alot

Dan

You do need a new bag, for sure. A new stock would put the tenor drone closest to your body. The baritone and bass may swap - some folks put the bass drone in the middle. You could certainly use it as is with a new bag - or get a new stock and bag.

I was looking at swapping a righty set to lefty a bit ago (I both write and play left-handed but pretty much do everything else right-handed), and the maker I talked to about it said you would want to dissassemble the bass drone and swap it around as the bends go the opposite way (to make room for the regs).

Since all the bits are there, it should be easy enough for a maker to swap it for you for a reasonable fee.

If there are no regulators, you may not need a new stock. Many of the old sets had the tenor drone on the outside anyway. If you can switch the baritone and bass drones (which might be straightforward, depending on the size of the tenons), you might get away with just a new bag.

That was my thought. I wasn’t sure if it would really work though. That might be the way to go. Now i just need to come across some buried treasure so i can buy things. Thanks alot guys.
