More left handed chanter

I just finished making a “Left handed” chanter with wooden head and stop key. The fellow wanted the keys ( other than the C key) mounted on the other side of the chanter which I did. To be honest, I realized that I could just a easily learn to play the chanter right handed even though the keys were in a different position.

In my opinion a left handed chanter is like a left handed baseball bat.

Regulators and bag placement are a different matter.

In terms of Irish music, keys are not a necessity. 99% of all tunes can be played on a keyless chanter. The value of keys is more for looks than anything else. The C, F natural, G# all can be fingered by half holing, no keys necessary

All the best,
Pat Sky

This has come up several times before, with the consensus being (even from some left handers) that a new physical activity like learning to play UPs is just as easy on a right-hand set as it is to learn on a left-hand set, with the left-hand set having a smaller resale market.
