Could anyone give me an idea how many decibels a concert chanter with a fairly hard reed would be. One that’s fairly bright, a hunter banjo blaster.
I think loudness is a matter of taste. I see absolutely no reason why a chanter should even be a “fiddle buster”. Loudness is essential in “accoustic armament” and adds to a bad image of Uilleann Pipes. BUT - a good (“quality”) chanter (and the Hunter “Banjo Buster” definitely is one) allows for a particular wide range of volume: You can “open” the reed very widely and you can “close it down” very much.
