Complete L.E. McCullough Music Compositions Now Online

Great, Philo! Everyone’s computer probably will react differently. . . will keep working on posting the ABCs and providing total accessibility,

Have a Great Thursday! Best, L.E.

p.s.: if anyone’s in Glen Ridge, NJ tonight, stop in at Fitzgerald’s for a lively session featuring fiddler Liz Hanley. 13 Herman Road, just off Bloomfield Avenue.

Hi Mr. LE, I lived in Woodbridge, NJ for about 4 years. I have found your Complete Tutor book a great help. Greetings from Maryland. When I can a free moment I’ll take a look at the tunes you have made available.

Tin

Dear Tin – thanks for writing!

Wow, Woodbridge. . . always something you learn about the place. . . you, me, Lou Creekmur, Brittany Murphy, Richie Sambora. . . never know who has a WB connection!

Well, we have an Irish pub now, The Shannon Rose, but it was recently created out of a deceased Office Max retail space, so it’s not that intimate for sessions. . . but we’re working on it. And we will have McPeake performing a live FREE outdoor concert on Main Street on Aug. 11, right there in front of the Carpet Maven. Drop by if you’re in the area. Main Street is movin on up!

Have a great week – L.E. McCullough

LE, Thanks so much for sharing these! I sent the link to our flute fellow, and he’s learning them, left, right and center! Chords! I need chords! LOL!

Great, Annie!

Chords are so much in the ear of the beholder and chord-maker, I left those to the imagination when notating here. You can copy what the accompanists do on the audio clips (and I am getting more, soon) or feel them out when you play them live yourself. I’m always surprised when I hear them!

Have a great weekend,

L.E. McCullough

Speaking of chords, I’m kinda bummed out at the moment – was supposed to play a couple tunes with guitarist/singer Sarah McQuaid tonight but her concert in Rockaway NJ got cancelled cause of the sudden snow. . . she might be back this way in October, can’t wait.

Best,
L.E.

[ Thread revival ]

I have a copy of Saint Patrick was a Cajun & am going to copy six of the tunes into abcs. Does anyone know if any of the other 136 & 1/2 tunes are available in abc; I don’t see them on L.E.'s website.

Ben

There are others interested in the ABC I’m sure. I am. I hope it happens.

As this thread had been revived, I’d like to add my interest in getting these tunes in ABC format to the list of those players who’ve already expressed their interest.

TIA

Yes, I also would be interested in the ABCs… add me to the list.

Ditto! Can’t have too many ABC files!

I guess I’m somehow missing the point on these past several posts.

If you want the abcs (and Dr McCullough doesn’t mind his copyright material being distributed in this manner), why not just divide up the work among you and write them out? The abc format is not rocket science, particularly for relatively simple tunes such as these…

Just do it (to coin a phrase).

Best wishes.

Steve

I’d be willing to pitch into that project and was thinking along the same lines.

However.

The crucial thing before we do anything is whether LEC is still on-board with the project and willing to have his tunes abc-ed.

Yes the tunes are already on the website in dots, but that doesn’t give any form of consent or permission for them to get transcribed into another format which is easily distributable as a single abc file.

Until Mr McCullough gives some steer as to whether he’s happy for such a thing to happen I’d advise caution, it wouldn’t be the first enthusiastic rush of abc activity I’ve seen that has had the entirely accidental effect of severely ****ing off the copyright holder.

When I posted my question about abcs for L.E.'s tunes my intention was to find out if either he, or Lesl Harker, had made those transcriptions available & I had somehow not found them. Now that I’ve put it out there & see it’s drawn a bit of attention I’ll send emails to each of them & post here if I hear back.

What I don’t know is what Lesl’s original abcs included. No, abc text isn’t rocket science but sometimes a diligent transcriber includes notes & such which can only be seen in the original abc text form. I’ve seen a bit of this in one of Lesl’s transcriptions. http://www.firescribble.net/rafferty/composersheets/known%20composers%20abcs.abc
The originals of the McCullough transcriptions may be simple abcs, they may no longer exist, we may never know. So, I posted a question on an old thread.

Hi folks!
Yes - back when we did the project for his website, I transcribed to abc from stacks of score sheets he’d done. (Before you ask, I don’t have the sheets, gave them back.) There were only the bare bones of the tunes, no articulations or anything. I digitised from paper dots to abc, then back to (digital) dots with the tune o tron, and those tune o tron conversions went up on the website. By the time I got to the end, (somewhere after the first 140) he’d begun writing in abc himself. I had asked if he wanted the initial abc files to go up somewhere but I think the question got lost in the shuffle. This was a few years ago. I’ll see if I can get hold of the good Dr about this. Cheers!

Thanks to this discussion I had a great night on Tuesday playing my way through the St Patrick Was A Cajun book for the first time in ages.

A whole bunch of great tunes on fife, some of them are tougher on the English concertina due to the number of descending 5ths which, at my level of EC playing. leads to some interesting fingering issues. Great tune titles too!

Good news - we’re now looking for a place to put the first 146. Steve, have you got space with the woodieL stuff? There are a few other possibilities but that might be a good start.

Yes, very happy to host them.

We might as well take the technicalities of that aspect of it off-list, so drop me a line at contact AT lesession DOT co DOT uk and we’ll sort it out (family commitments for Easter weekend so don’t be alarmed if I’m not always quick on responses). Excellent stuff.

Okay, here we go!

Flipping through, it appears I entered Linda’s Birthday Bash twice, but then again she’s had another birthday. Anyway, make that 160 tunes for now.

Three cheers for Larry, Gary, and Steve!

Lesl, thank you so much! I appreciate everyone who picked up on this & followed through.

Just as a side note I wanted to make a correction regarding the tunes I was originally wanting to share with my friends. I was going from memory & that’s not always as good as it was back in the day.

Here are the tunes w/reference #s from Lesl’s abc transcriptions;

X:15
T:Cuz from Castleisland
R:reel

X:20
