Hi! N00b here…
I’m going to head to my local seething metropolis and enjoy a session at the local Irish Club.
Any advice for the bare naked n00b on this sort of thing? I rather had in mind sitting quietly, off to the side, nursing a Harp and singing raucously at the appropriate times then glaring ominously at doorman.
Obviously, I’m open to suggestions.
danke
I presume you’re planning on coming to the Bardic Circle session on Thursdays, right?
Don’t worry; we’re friendly.
Newcomers are usually asked to start a few tunes. And to sing, although they may have rethought that policy after my appearance. You’ll fit right in if you sit around and consume beer.
The only advice I’d give is to follow the usual session etiquette. To summarize: Don’t be so eager to play/talk/beat a circular object with a stick that you forget to listen to what others are doing. That doesn’t sound like it will be an issue with you, so I think you’ll do fine and have a good time.
-Craig, who will probably be at the next session and will spend most of it not playing
Hooray for a local poster!
Yes, the Bardic Circle is the plan. I hear there’s also a session on Fridays that I may look in to.
Singing is not a problem…well, yes it is. Anyways, I’ve only 3 days of whistling under me belt. Not quite enough to play; although, I could play quietly.
Did I mention I’m a trombonist? That last thought may not work out.
I look forward to being there and meeting you and all the lot.
That was fun! Obviously, I was the least seasoned among the lot; but, I greatly enjoyed it nonetheless. And a fine venue, too. It was just as much fun to listen to you guys play as it was to play even the one tune (song) I could play. Thank you muchly for your tolerance and grace. In two weeks, I should have another tune or two to play.
