You know how when you wash your car and it drives better?
Same thing with my flute. I did a deep clean, using denatured alcohol (ethanol) to clean off the surface scum, and maybe some shellac. Polished the silver keys. Gave the bore and surface a new layer of almond oil.
Now, I’m getting wonderful, fresh tone from my flute. It is looking so clean and sparkling!
Maybe, I’m also getting better. The embouchure really takes a long time to build quality.
If you really mean denatured alcohol, it has additives added purposely to make it poisonous, to stop people drinking it. It also contains variable quantities of methanol, even up to 50%.
I would not be putting this anywhere near a flute. You could use pure ethanol, or isopropyl alcohol as a solvent. Although I suppose if you cleaned it off very thoroughly it’s alright, but still.
