Christmas tunebook?

Greetings, all! I’ve made the rounds to the usual sources online, and can’t seem to find a Christmas tunebook for pennywhistle. (I’m still working on the playing by ear fiasco.) I’m convinced it must exist. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

You might look for a book called (I believe) “The Great Christmas Fake Book” The tunes are not necessarily in D/G but you can always transpose or play them on another whistle.

If you’re looking for something specifically for whistle, or in pennywhistle notation, I’m afraid you might be in for a disappointment - I’ve never seen one or seen one mentioned.

Of course, you can also do it the hard way, searching JC’s or DigiTrad or other sources for specific tunes, one at a time.

For what it’s worth (and hey, you’ve got eight months to practice!), Christmas tunes are great for practicing learning by ear. They’re mostly pretty simple, well-suited to whistle, and you probably know how they go very well by now. This is much easier than trying pick up a tune you don’t know.

And maybe you can make a contribution to Chiffy Christmas III this year!

Thanks for the replies. I’ll definitely get the Celtic Christmas book, and I will continue to work on tunes by ear. For some reason this just doesn’t come easily to me, even with well known tunes. It must have taken me 15-30 minutes to work out ‘Happy Birthday’! The fake book is a great idea, in fact I think I already have one for my daughters’ piano. That would never have occurred to me. Regardless, I will need every bit of the 8 months to learn some tunes well enough to play for anyone!

Remember, too, that when looking for a tune, you might find it in a whistle key under its “other” identity - e.g.What Child is This?/Greensleeves

Here is a site which should help you…

It has a listing of XMas tunes, and includes the written music plus the recorded tune.
