CHRIS LANGAN WEEKEND AND GUESTS ARE UP!!!

All,

We have posted the Toronto Chris Langan Weekend schedule for 2005 (January 14th to 16th); it is looking to be a fine weekend with workshops by:

  • Jarlath Henderson
  • Benedict Koehler (Piping and Pipes)
  • Deborah Quigley

Benedict will be giving a piping workshop and a lecture on Tuning the Pipes, which I will not miss ( :moreevil:   )

The schedule can be viewed at:

If you have any questions or ideas on how we could improve it, let me know – we are open to ideas.

Hope to see you there for a Guiness and a tune.

Virgil

I would attend this event on an annual basis but I just cannot get myself interested in attending in midwinter. I’ve visited the lovely city of Toronto three times…autumn, summer, and in mid January. 'Twas bone-chilling cold and 6 inches of snow on the ground in January. Aeroplane sat on the tarmac for 2 hrs full of people before we could take off to return to sunny warm Nashville after my business was concluded.

I would be delighted if you folks would consider moving this tionol to a time when the weather would be lovely. I’d spend a week in Toronto in the summer and a tionol at that time would be a good excuse to visit.

Hey,
The schedule file needs some serious tweaking.

Most lines are simply not readable!

Nico, the sched works okay for me.

Glands, there was talk of moving it to the spring and possibly out of town (similar to what was done in southern NY this past Halloween) but the locals want something convenient and don’t care much about the weather (you think that’s cold? Try going up north.).

Hey, Harry’s teaching UPs. I get to drive him nuts in person. Can’t wait! Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!

Glands,

Consider it a challenge. If you can play UPs in Toronto in January in a bone dry Church hall (Victorian radiators pumping out non-humidified heat), you can play UPs anywhere!

Come on up, we want to see that Willie Rowsome set.

Glands,

On your points:

a) I agree this is the worst reed time of year. We have discussed moving the weekend very seriously, and are considering it. It is just hard to find a convenient weekend for which there is no conflicting Tionol or Irish event going on.

b) The schedule was fixed by Paul today. Let me know if it is still illegible to you.

c) I would also like to see it at a better venue. We are looking, but have not found a better home yet.

Hope you change your mind, but if not, no worries. I hope to come down to some of the tionals in the US next year.

Virgil

Beautiful looking schedule. Thanks!

Welcome

I’d personally looooove to see the Chris Langan weekend in the summer. But admittedly, it is warming to the soul to come in from the cold and be so welcomed by the sound of pipes, whistles, fiddles and guitars (okay one banjo too! cheers Dennis!) as well as the finest quality instructors from the world of ITM. Nothing a cozy sweater won’t cure! It also breaks up the winter a bit and gives us something different to concentrate on other than the ice and complaining car batteries.

Following up on Virgil’s note, I’m really looking forward to meeting Jarlath Henderson, but mostly seeing David and Benedict again - sincerely, two of my favourite people on this planet.

We will be posting a pre-registration form to email in. It will include a schedule and a check list of classes. Make sure you enroll early - space is limited this year to avoid large classes.

Cheers to all,

I should also add that no-one has asked for the guest room at my house yet, so it is still available to a fellow piper (or whatever!). I pretty much live at the Tranzac except for sleeping, so don’t worry 'bout missing anything.

Caveat: I have a dog who loves attention, a cat who purrs loudly and two very funny kids 5 and 7. Add to that a beer fridge and a house in Pleasantville! (Otherwise known as Cornell)

Cheers,
PR

Paul, is the fee still the same as last year, $85 for the weekend (and does that include both concerts)?

Joseph: Yessir.

Thank you.

You can pay in USD if you wish

 .
I am giving it some good thought. Of course, it depends on our budget here at home, but I’d love to get up there. If ‘she who must be obeyed’ gives me the thumbs up (what a tired excuse this is, eh?), I’ll be there!

I always tried to attend and now finally, I’m able to being from Montreal it’s only a couple of hours away.

See some of you there!

Daryl

There are some updates on the site, though I’d bump this up so you can pre-register – get the form from the link on the front page.

Cheers,

PR

Wow, Daryl, you must drive really, really fast!!

I think it’s more like five or six hours, really.

-Brad

Yeah,

Hey Brad. Thanks for the reply.

What I meant in reference to the Chris Langan Weekend was that it was only a handful of hours away ( 4 or 5) - compared to where I used to live in Timmins,On which is like 8+ from T.O. I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s much better to travel 4.5 to 5 rather than 8 back-breaking hours of driving.

Hope to meet up with you there!

Warm regards,

Daryl

I bunch of use from Montreal will be there for sure.

I complained to Debbie about the advanced whistle workshop during the festival, which ends up being crowded with people who atteneded the beginner’s/intermediate workshop and just want to show up for the heck of it, and then you end with the teacher having to teach basic stuff like rolls and cuts. My suggestion was to make sure only advanced people showed up at the advanced workshop, but them it means less money for the organizers. Does someone have any idea if anything is going to change about that advanced workshop, or if there’s any whistle workshop at all, and who’s the teacher? I would LOVE a workshop with Debbie! Any concertina workshop?

Kathleen Conneely will be teaching an advanced whistle workshop, according to the schedule, and it’s limited to 7 people. You should take her workshop, Az…she’s a brilliant whistle player (and very cute too, although she’s already married, too bad for you  )
