Hi AlonE,
I canāt speak about the Howard, as Iāve never had nor played one. I do have a non-tuneable V3 and absolutely love it. Iāve played other low Ds and the V3 was very easy to play right away (as far as low Ds go). You can push it hard without jumping octaves and the ornamentation is very crisp. It has just the right amount of ābreathinessā to it. I love it-how it plays and sounds. Then again, this is my opinion and my playing. Others may feel differently. It may help to have someone comment whose played both. I hope this helps a little. Please take my free advice for what itās worth
Iām no professional!
Many thanks Irish marine.
now, waiting others opinions.
by the way, V3 have a much aire requeriments?, I have a bad lungs ![]()
many thanks!!!
AlonE, speaking anecdotally as a life long asthmatic, your lungs should be better as a consequnce of playing the whistle. Mine are.

I have tried Overton, Howard and Alba low whistles once. Overton certainly has the most haunting sound, with a lot of backpressure. Both Howard and Alba were easy players. However I do not like the Howard-sound, but thatās personal. I just LOVED the Alba low D I tried, very haunting, very easy to play, not too much backpressure, not too much air-requirement, just the way it should be. There is a clip on clips and snips of the Alba on the slow-airs-section.
Hi AlonE,
I donāt think the V3 has much air requirement at all. It definitely requires more than playing my hi D Burke, but much less than my flute requires. I thought it was actually quite easy on breath requirements for such a long instrument. It was pleasantly surprising. It is actually easier (for me) to hit the second octave A and B on the V3 Low D than it was on my NR Hi D whistle-much easier in fact. I hope that helps. I really donāt think you can go wrong with the V3 as itās sound is wonderful. Again, I canāt compare it to the Howard though. If you want to check out the sound of the V3 you can check out Philās site www.kerrywhistles.com He has some sound clips-just go to his āStoreā section and choose the V3 clip from there.
I have reviews of both the Howard and the V3 on my site here:

I would personally recommend a V3 over a Howard, it is a much easier player. JMHO
However, the Howard does have a little more backpressure.
pretty cool reviews, i need to get more into low whistles. i am just trying to find the right one fore me.
