Cataracts

I’m scheduled for a cataract surgery evaluation in late march, and am supposed to be scheduled for the actual cataract removal and lens replacement 1-2 weeks after that.

I don’t really want to get into a medical discussion, but if anyone’s had the surgery, I’d love to have a private chat with you to talk about your experiences, how things went, etc. No one in my family has had it before, so i don’t really have anyone to give me any anecdotal stories to make me feel better

I will pray for you.

I’ve not had it, but I have friends who have, and the vast majority are quite pleased. I’ll cross fingers and steeple hands in your direction.

All he has to do is be there…pray the surgeon doesn’t get the hiccups…do try to be practical

They will also determine the size of lens to use at that time.

one eye? both? If both, it will probably be a couple of weeks between surgeries.

My mom and three of her sisters have had the surgery. All were well into their 70’s and all were delighted with the results.

If it were up to me I would keep them.

Just one…but i’ve lost 60-70% vision in it :frowning:

my right one was that bad, they did it first

what talked me right into getting the second one done

What does this mean?

Alternate meaning of Cataract - falls.

I had both eyes done plus some follow-up last fall. Turns out that certain drugs can give you cataracts.

Will send you a PM.

Yeah, my doc said steroids can…but as I’ve never used steroids, he theorizes that it’s trauma-induced from a childhood surgery

My dad had one done at age 89. Only one eye (as he can;t see other than peripheral vision out of the other). Had to wait until they stopped the macular degeneration first. Now he can see and can read better than I can with my contact lenses.

Simple procedure. Vision improved over a few weeks after. No pain.

no words of wisdom (although I have had other eye surgeries and Lasik), but will keep you in my thoughts.

I had my right eye done 6-7 yrs ago (in my early 50s). It was easy and painless. Recovery time was maybe a day or two, maybe less. You’ll want to be in a darkened room for the first day. I’ve never had a problem with the lens. Distance vision in right eye has outstanding clarity.

I’ve had a small cataract in my left eye for years, but it’s not in the line of sight. It’s grown and a yr ago the doc began saying it should be interfering with my vision. I don’t see it (literaly). I’m sure I’ll notice it eventually and when I do, I’ll get it fixed. No big deal.

Good Luck

well, it does need to “interfere with your quality of life” for many insurance companies to cover it…and you do have to say that to the doctor
