I posted this on the temp. board, got one response, but wanted confirmation from a flute player…
I made my own bamboo flute this weekend. It’s from a piece of bamboo from a hardware store, so it’s seriously dry. I’ve oiled it once, clean the bore after each playing, and am storing it in a plastic bag with the cleaning rag for a little humidity. I’m also only playing it twice a day for 10 minutes each time per a web page on wooden flutes I’d read.
Am I on track? Anything else I need to do to keep it from cracking (apart from wrapping it with thread which I did)?
This was a seriously fun experiment! The bamboo was $1.19, and the thread was dental floss (hey, it’s pre-waxed for me).
Thanks,
Eric
