Browsing Elderly’s website, I came across an item labeled “Cane flute whistle” for 8 bucks. The link: http://www.elderly.com/new_instruments/items/FCW.htm
Anywho, I thought at first the key labels on the front were embouchere holes–a flute AND a whistle in one?! It couldn’t be!–but after enlarging the photo I saw they were, right, key labels. They’re whistles then, but are they any good? I’ve been wanting to try wooden whistles, and for less than 10 dollars, these definitly spark my interest.
Comments would be appreciated!

The difficulty is that
the whistle may not be
in tune, either internally
or externally. But more
often than not they’re
OK, and Elderly’s probably
isn’t going to sell rubbish,
and if they do, well,
I suppose you can return
it.
P.S. When I say the tone is ‘soft’
I don’t mean not loud. But it
absorbs ornamentation.

I got some from song of the sea when I first started. Not bad for the money. I never played them much after I got into some serious low whistles. They helped convince me that I wanted to try a low D.
I have a Low A, Low G and a C. I’d sell them all for $10.00 + shipping ($3 US / insurance optional) as I never use them any more.
THe C is “tweaked” on the blade to give a better sound and one of the hole sizes was increased to bring it into tune with itself.

I have a Low A, Low G and a C…
How big are the hole spans on the low A and G? I have very small hands and pretty short fingers. For comparison, I have a Gen Bb and the reach is fine on that. Thanks.

I have a gen Bb. Hole span distance on A is one half of one hole different. About an inch more on the low G. THe holes are much larger on the cane whistles, but the tube diameter is bigger, so the surface is flatter than the Gen Bb. They don’t sound quite so nice as the Gen Bb. More raw, but softer.
