Can you name this tune in 3 notes...

OK, maybe more like 28.

I have a tune stuck in my head, I heard it for decades, I have no idea what the name of the tune is and I’d love to get the sheetmusic for it. I’ve played it for everyone I can, most everyone has heard it before but no one knows the name.

You guys have any suggestions on how to ID this song? (I wish we could insert images or I’d post what I have.)

Enter the first few notes in ABC notation into the tune search engine on http://www.thesession.org.

With much sadness I have to report that I have tried that already and failed. There is a good chance that I am playing it in a different key from normal, since I’m playing it from memory.

Any chance I can post the ABC here? Maybe it’s close enough to jog someones memory?

Good idea. Lots of music experts here.

I’ve never used ABC notation before, heck, I learned to read music a whopping two months ago, so my apologies if its all wrong, but here it is:

ggababDGGGDbgcEcbDbgcDDDcbag

I wasn’t sure how to differentiate between octaves so I wnet with lower case for first octave UPPER CASE for second octave.

My thanks for any help you guys can provide.

Well, slap me silly and call me blonde. A guy down the hall at work tells me it’s ONLY the unofficial Scottish national anthem “Scotland the Brave” and gave me a “for shame on you” look for not knowing it.

Nothing left to do now but try to learn it. Thanks guys.

If you could hum a bit of it or play it for us
someone of us might recognise it?
