The kindness of my soon to be former web site host
Has given as a sort of good will toast:
A few more days to display my wares
Just in case anyone cares to take
A last look at the list of whistles I make
And will continue to do for as long as I’m able to.

mackhooverwhistles.com is almost done

but NOT Mack Hoover whistles
Mack
edited to ask if anyone would like to try one of these:

Hi Mack. I’m sorry to see the website go but happy that you will still be making whistles. I have two of your brass whistles and am looking forward to getting my third.

Hi, Mack: I was always honored to have my non-tunable set of aluminum Hoover whistles with Corian fipple blocks, and their Mack-made custom box, displayed on your website.

As always, friend, I wish you the best.

Mack, why is your site going down?

Hi Daniel,
I’m taking it down. Maybe temporary, maybe permanent, for any number of reasons some good some maybe not so good. Making whistles is my hobby, not website design and maintenance. Dumb, huh!
Mack

Mack, I would love to try one of your telescoping whistles! When did you add these to the Hoover inventory?

Judy
aka Judy K on PWA

Me too!

Hi Judy,
It looks like I just did from the number of inquiries I’ve gotten. Till now it was just an idea and a prototype.

No one has asked here for the price, so I can’t give a direct answer according to the rules.

But for what it’s worth I’ll have to add about ten to the price of any corresponding regular whistle. I can apply the technique to any of my all brass D whistles. NBD (narrow) 7/16"; TBD (trad) 1/2"; WBD (wide)15/23"; and MBD (mellow or maxi) 9/16" all of which are currently priced at $65 plus $5 S&H

Sent ya an email, Mr. Hoover, sir.

So Mack, could I get a quick discription of the brass 1/2, 15/23, and 9/16 inch whistles?
I already have a the Narrow Bore D, and I really like it.

One more thought.
How about a pen clip that fits on the barrel of the telescoping whistles?

NBD sweet pure quiet requires very careful breath
TBD moderate volume still pretty pure tone but can accept more puff
WBD easy to play and pleasant to listen to
MBD equates in bore to the mellow D whistles but a bit less harsh. The lower register is sweeter than the upper.
(Of course these are subjective impressions of a biased maker.)

The pocket clip

How about a picture of the pocket clip with the whistle extended? Am I seeing it right that the clip is attached at the bottom of the whistle?

Cindy

Yes.
It’s the same whistle (pictured at the start of the thread) with a different foot joint. You can have it either way.

This whistle is in my future.

An elegant telescoping design is something to be admired.

If this is not too detailed a question - Do the 3 tube segments have any extra thickness that separates them (and keeps them from falling apart)? Or do they slide back together with no gaps. I guess another way of asking my, confusing, question is - are the 3 barrels sized consecutively, or, is there an “extra size” that separates top/middle and middle/bottom?

The design is part of the art and the artist so no obligation to divulge! Either way I will have to have one. In the meantime I am enjoying the challenge of figuring out how I would go about elegantly nesting 3 tubes (that dont just fall apart). As for having a fine whistle, I am patiently waiting for my Mack Hoover budget to be replenished

It’s not a secret or magic. It’s K&S telescoping brass tubing from the local hardware store. You put a little squeeze on each one so as to make them a tiny bit out of round. They slide easily, stay together and don’t leak. There are some things that will NOT be divulged. :imp:

sorry, i remain adamantly impressed.

And now i have a whole new line of fun directions to play with (and keep K&S in business).
Thank you yet again!

Can this one come with the thumb hole?

yes

I’ve been given a new web location through the kindness of friends.
It’s all on one page now. You’re welcome to stop by for a visit.
