Burke DLA replacement

I have a Burke Low D Aluminum Pro, but find it lacks volume in the lower register. The first 2 or 3 notes seem to be especially weak.

Any recommendations on what I should be considering as a replacement?

I just noticed Michael Burke has a new Viper model that seems to address this issue. I was also considering a Copeland, but they are significantly more expensive. I figured something with a conical bore would be stronger in the lower register.

Cheers,

or try an overton, if you like a little more back pressure http://www.overton.de/

what’s going on there chris?? your 2 bigamy sisters seem to cough when you say overton??

“Two girls for every boy”

And yes, Overton.

and how many whistles for every girl?
i think he didn’t warm them up, from there all the coughing

This is the point where we refrain from any jokes about tonguing, fingering or blowing.
No, seriously!

overton

I would recommend talking to Mike about this and possibly sending it back to him for revoicing. I’ve played a Burke and Goldie Overton side-by-side, and the Burke definitely had a stronger bottom.

Timing is everything. I was going to post a suggestion to return the instrument to Mike for re-voicing, and Charlie beat me to it. My Burke low D truly lacks nothing in the low end.

Send it back…

Best.

Hi,
Just a line to agree that if you have a low D that has a weak low end, it needs my attention, no matter if you keep it or get something else, someone will be playing it. I would welcome the opportunity to fix it, and no charge for the fix or the return shipping either.
All the best
Mike
