O’Brian, One thing I wanted to discuss is the thicker fipple edge I saw on some of your whistles. I took the mouthpiece off my Feadog , made a dime thickness piece of sticky tac to put on the underside of fipple edge. I was much happier with the sound. I like high whistles ,bu some sound soo piercing. I also too a small square of elec. tape and put on top of blade.
Both these little things semed to tame the beast a little.
I may be in the minority , but I like a quieter less piercing tone
Who else is headed this direction??
There are a couple forums for makers of flutes amd whistles over on Yahoo. Both are easily found via a search of the Yahoo boards. The flutemaker forum contains a wealth of information and is frequented by professional makers and amateurs alike. Some whistle makers frequent that board as well. The level of knowledge shared on that board is impressive, IMHO.
And there is also a whistlemakers forum. The whistlemakers forum has been dormant for quite some time now. Which I take to mean that there is not enough interest to keep it thriving. Again, both commercial makers and DIY makers posted there. I asked a question on that board a month or so ago and received two replies, both by email, not posted to the board. One reply from Chuck Tilbury was very helpful. So a forum is there if you want to start posting. I’ll check in every so often. There may be enough new makers here now that it could get moving again. Try it and see what happens.
