Bubble Gum or Baling Twine ?

and now , your starter for 10 pints ..

what is it , who made it , etc. (trying to paste a picture of the flute )

but my question is , what will i do to make a quick fix , tape , glue , spit or nail varnish ( it’s the mot’s , honest ! ),or what ?

there’s a crack running from the top of the E , out to the tenon end above the F

( that is to say , directly above the middle finger , right hand , as far as the tenon end )

it was rescued from an attic , where it had been growing some fine moss and grunge , and brought back to life .

it plays like a dream , after about an hour , when the crack is nicely filled with spit ( and i have a lot of that , may even bottle and sell it , if anyone is interested , purely eco stuff , no artificial additives , and the brand name will be Hack Tooh ) which is how i found the crack , wondering why were my fingers getting sticky .

i promise , it will only be for the weekend , and i will send it straight to the menders , on Monday , but i’m having the time of my life with it , and hey ! i might even learn a few new tunes , not to be wrecking the lads with my 7th rendition of the Harvest Home ..

here’s my effort of posting my pictures , apologies if i have done anything cyberspacially actionable .

( didn’t work , lads , so can anyone tell me how to paste , or what , the pictures of the flute , to this window ? i’m using a mac , and the pics are in my iPhoto )

well , i used the nail varnish , had to go for a drive and wave it out the window to dry the stuff , that’s what the mot said she does .
it’s a lovely sounding flute , good hard bottom D ,and very arty in the second octave .
i would like to know where it comes from , who made it etc. so if anyone could tell me how to post a link to the pictures of it , that would be nice .

love the smell of nail varnish in morning

well , Jon C , that was an interesting learning curve . i shall now be pestering you for the next while , for techie info…
and now i shall now award myself a large amount of coffee . well done , jim troy !

so , is the photo alright to make out any idea as to what it is ?
the third pic shows , sort of , (camera phone ) the crack where i brushed nail varnish , which works , in a girlie sort of way .
the head joint is metal lined and metal outer part , there are no precious metal stamps , and no makers name .

thanks for the help , a tootle air.

Glad to be of service with your tech needs!
Your flute was made in Germany, in the later part of the 19th century. The flute is modeled after a maker named Meyers. Most of the flutes are marked Nach Meyers, meaning: like, or after Meyers. Sometimes ya get a good one, like it sounds like you found one.
You might want to use CA glue on that crack, if your fingernail polish doesn’t pay out. I use CA glue with blackwood dust, for filler.

thanks for the info Jon , i will be sending it to the menders in the next few days, and then i have to give it back to it’s owner .

it is a nice one , and i have had great craic playing on it for the few days that i got it working ish .

again , thanks for the techie advice .

Well I googled your location, and all I got was news of a new road improvements…

The Fianna Fail councillor called on the council to provide turning lanes on the N6 at the Tanvey and Cranberry junctions at Ballydangan in the interest of road safety. He said that vehicles were coming and going on that road in Ballydangan > “ like Christmas” > and the point had been brought home forcibly to him recently when he was involved in a near incident while turning off there when a vehicle overtook him at high speed.

He wanted the Area Engineer to look at it for this coming year. Cllr Tony Ward seconded the notice of motion. Replying as outlined, the Meeting Administrator also stated that two additional lanes would be provided in the current year at Kilbegley and Millar’s Pub.

These lanes are being provided in conjunction with pavement improvement schemes and having regard to the volume of traffic using the junctions. The locations at the Tanvey and Cranberry junctions can be considered in 2007.

Have they started yet, or are they still talking about it at Kilbegley Pub?
Actually, there is probably more road improvments is Tanvey, then Los Angeles! :swear:

it’s an exciting turn off for sure , wondering if you are going to rear ended by someone hurrying home to Dublin for their tea , coming AT you at 60-70 mph .
Paris and Rome drivers come here to practise before tearing around in their own place .
we should have our own cross over bridge by the end of the year ,(Dublin - Galway Motorway near completion ) letting us down on and off the main road without having to dice for position .

there are maybe three bridges under construction at the moment , and very likely we’ll have the use of them before some committee ok’s the purchase of the paint for those road markings .
i don’t know if they are talking about it down at the pub , as i only ever go drinking if there are tunes to be had and the locals don’t play . never could get into that drinks of evening thing .

i’m here just a short while , and it’s like living in a mix between Postman Pat’s village , and Tír na nÓg .

haven’t found any flute players yet , even though it’s Roscommon , but i have this dream .
if i play , they will come..

Sounds like a cool place! I am sure a flute player or two will pop up, you could check on Woodenflute.com
I love to watch that show on the net, I liked the day at the beach…
