I was just listening to the 20/10/01 late session (thanks again to Patrick D.) where Mick O’Brien plays “The Bonny Bunch of Roses” as a slow air. I was just wondering if this was commonly played as a slow air on the pipes or if Mr O’Brien came up with this version as a show piece? I’ve never heard it played on the pipes, but my CD collection isn’t terribly extensive. Has it ever been recorded anywhere else (other than Seamus Ennis sung version) ? Take a listen to that show if you haven’t yet. Mick O’Briens playing is mind-blowing throughout.

This is one of those tricky ones that has multiple names: The Little Bench of Rushes / An Binnsín Luachra / Beinsín Luachra / Bunch of Green Rushes / The Bonny Bunch of Roses / O! Pleasant Was the Moon / Life Is All Checkered with Pleasures and Woes / The Bark Is on the Swelling Shore.
You can find it played on:
The Pipering of Willie Clancy Volume 1
The Funny Reel. Traditional Music of Ireland - Joe Burke, Andy McGann, and Felix Dolan.

Wille Clancy and Neil Mulligan recorded the Bonny Bush of Roses.
Seamus Ennis(sp?) sings The Bonny Bunch of Roses on one of his old recordings. It’s the same tape that has Lark in the Morning.
