Blacksmithereens

Hello,
Does anyone have and abc or gif of the pipng end of Planxty’s the Blacksmith? A friend had asked me to play it and I’m fairly sure I have it by ear but just want to check it against someone else as certain notes seem a bit moveable (ie) B and Bflatish. Not normally the type of tune I would play but its fun enough, Thanks in advance, Pat

Is that the Bulgarian style peice at the end you’re talking about? In a similar style to the pieces Smeceno Horo and Momisko Horo that they do?

No  But good luck… try learning it by ear.

Pat.

Hi Pat, Yes thats the one. I have it by ear but just want to check because it seems like I am hearing something different each time I listen and then I am listening to Pennou Skoulm with Andy Irvine on you tube and they seem to Pennou Skoulmify it a little bit. Just need clarification on certain notes whether b or b flat or both in the first bit (both I think) and then there may be an f nat ? f sharp confusion or it could be sort of slid between both notes in both phrases. Anyhow its not the hardest piece of music just hoping someone can help me nail it. thanks Pat

I just had a listen - both the original “Planxty” recording and the 2004 Live album. Sounds like straightforward B-nats and F-sharps to me, nothing tricky.

That little riff was composed by Donal Lunny.

Hi I can play it convincingly with all Bs but something is still missing
the first phrase could be
E G A B A / BA BA cB or
E G A Bb A/ BA BA cB
or something else I am missing
both sound alright but if you watch the interviews at the end of the
2004 video where Andy is playing it on a mandolin alone there is clearly a Bb
in there but its more of a grace note and thats my confusion.

Here are some clips if anyone else wants to help

the part we’re on about is at the end of the singing
thanks again Patrick

Listening to the Live 2004 setting, this is what I hear Liam playing at the beginning:

X:1
T:Smithereens
M:10/8
K:EDor
.G/.A/|GAB {A^c}A2 {B^c}B/A/ .^c/A/ {d}BA- {B}A/{G}A/|
GA.B {d}A2 {GA}G/E/ {GA}G/E/ {A}D{A}E2|

Maybe it’s the C-sharps that are throwing you off?

I think you may be right there I was having c sharp c confusion, in the second bit is it a c nat?
I can’t really write abc esecially for this rythym so there’s not much point in writing what I have, thanks very much guru
