Besson & Co 'Pelora'

Hello Readers,
I have had a Besson & Co ‘Pelora’ no.2907 donated to the English charity that I work for. Does anyone have any information about the Pelora, specifically (I have found excellent information on the company), and what sort of value it might hold?
Yours faithfully,
David.

I think Besson & Co was a London-based branch of the French Besson company. It was eventually taken over by Boosey & Hawkes in 1948.

I don’t know anything specifically about the Pelora, but I did notice a recent attempt to sell one here. This one was high pitched, which tends to suppress the market value considerably. If yours plays well at A=440 it would be worth more. You might want to measure the sounding length and C#-Eb distance … or just play it in front of a tuner at room temperature.

Hey David,

Here’s a link to the post were I was offering mine for sale: https://forums.chiffandfipple.com/t/f-s-ebonite-besson-boehm-flute-at-high-pitch-400/86882/1 *Note mine was a High Pitch and made of Ebonite, plus a much earlier serial number.

I believe I finally sold it for just $300, but it needed a repad to be optimal.

Best of Luck!

Many thanks to you both for replying with some helpful information. My apologies for my tardy thanks; I expected an email alert to replies.

I wish you a good New Year,
David.
