Bagpipe kinds across europe

A sweet website I found, with a picture of each bagpipe
Too bad it’s in italian - sometimes a picture worth a thousand words.

http://www.bagpipes.it/CommonImages/Mapping/Mappa.htm

I was thinking that a lot of the pictures looked really familiar until I remembered Oliver Seeler’s Web Site The Universe Of Bagpipes featuring Sean Folsom at http://www.hotpipes.com/main.html

Greg

looks like someone’s been doing some picture snapping

Italian tartans - love it!

Good spot Greg, some of those pics do look quite familiar.

Some of the geography gets a little faulty as well–Polish pipes in the Netherlands, Hungarian at the Ukraine/Slovakia border, and the Balkans are all messed up (aren’t they always?).

No E

The map is a bit off alright.
Also looks like the Baltic Sea is a new country.

Tommy

That’s Sean’s arsenal alright. “The largest Celtic webstore in Italy.” Photos and downloads all look to be of a GHB nature too.

There is some really crazy sh!t out there for sure. How many of these style of pipes are still being made?

All of them and more! :astonished:

Patrick.

Pity they didnt take the time to do it properly…lifting Jpg’s… omitting a dozen or so pipes…then there’s that whole geography snafu…would’ve been a nice site otherwise…

GEEEEZ Only 18 of my Baaaaaagpipe images!!!
Why didn’t they use all 30?
But Hey!!! that’s NOT my:
GHB
Launeddas
Baghet of Bergamo-line drawing
Alpine Piva
SOOOO they are a tiny bit oridginal !
I like the map idea, a nice presentation there! (albeit slightly inaccurate)
Someday… I gotta get up photos of my:
Ukrainian Duda
Xeremie de Mallorca
Walloon Muse au Sac
Romanian Cimpoi
Persian Nay-anban
Podrine(Drava River) Dude
Vojvodina Gajde
Pastoral Pipe after Hugh Robertson
Colin Ross D set of NSPs
Asturian Gaita
Estonian Torupill (with 2 drones a fifth apart)
Piva D’Allesandrino
Russian Volynka
Let’s fill that map UP !!!
"Please-Please, PLEASE ! (James Brown)…PIPES I still need to get:
a Maltese Iz-Zaqq, a Mari Shuvyr, a French Bodega and Boha, a Gudastviri from Georgia, a Breton Veuze (I’d like it in G), and the rest of the Baltic Pipes from Latvia, Lithuania, and that really rare Karelian
(One chanter One Drone in a common stock) pipe called a _______? There’s a few more… I can’t name just now…?
Of course I could just get Photos and line drawings, put it on “THE WEB”, and call it a day !!
Sean Folsom

You’re near Santa Cruz, right? Why don’t you just knick the veuze that Ray Price has got?

Then again, I seem to remember that his might be in D or something…

Mmmm, which Hungarian pipe is this? From http://www.passiondiscs.co.uk/e_pages/hung_e/abt_007.htm. That guy be jammin’! I could listen to that pipe all day.

sigh*

Give it up Joseph. We all love ya, but the no non-UP pipe moratorium was a really hopeless idea.

Like inviting a bunch of alcoholics to a bar and then trying to get them to only talk about wine coolers.

Doc

By the way, speaking of Uillean pipes, I got a really neat set of NSPs yesterday. Wooohoo! :boggle:

If it makes you feel any better, I’ve taken to calling my NSPs and SSPs “Lil’ Uilleanns”.

Now that is an insult. Associating those ridiculous nasal little kazoos with UPs is worthy of hanging IMHO.

djm

I’m inclined to agree. Thus, we see the shameful side effects of repression.

Doc

Why is that even an issue? We could write about this stuff in the Pub, and many of the pipers here won’t ever know about it. Is clutter such a big deal? I don’t even read much of what’s posted here, it’s just brutally redundant. What kind of flat set blah blah? Breaking back D blah blah? Talk about clutter.

DOCTOR JONES ! TESTIFY ! AMEN !
Well said, Well said !
Mister Pitchfork, Dancing Master Price’s Veuze is in A (ou “LA”), I LOVE IT, but I’ve watched him drive the Mendocino French Camp people CRAZY after 15 minutes !
Years ago, Dennis Brooks had a folio-sized, folded, sheet of music, with a great colored drawing of a Breton Piper with a large-sized, single drone bagpipe, and the title of the song (Le title, et tout le chanson, ete en paroles Francais, pas Breton, ala interieur), was:
“Ma Gentil Biniou” ! So I asked Dennis,
"Whadda they mean, “Gentle Biniou?”
The Brooks told me, then and there, about other sizes of BINIOU, not JUST the “petite” variety. Before I ever got a Biniou Koz, Ted Anderson told me that the sound of the (HIGH Bb) Biniou Koz, made him want to pee. Well, the lower the pitch, the less likely that effect will be, on the audience at large…the more you CAN call it…
“MA GENTIL BINIOU !” So someday… donne moi un “Gentil Biniou” en “SOL”, S.V.P.
As to images from “Universe of Bagpipes” ANYBODY CAN USE THEM ON THEIR SITE, ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS ASK PERMISSION, CREDIT EACH PHOTO TO 3 W HOTPIPES.COM / OLIVER SEELER, AND HAVE A LINK TO “3w hotpipes.com / universe of bagpipes”, ON THEIR LINKS PAGE.
My friend, Piper Alan Keith, who lives in Mountain View, California, has some of the photos on his site, with the proper credits, so how hard is it for all these instant “MAVENS” …? to do the same ???
INCREASE INTELLECTUAL FERTILITY !!
SPREAD THAT BAGPIPE KNOWLEDGE !!
All the Best Wishes to Everybody ! Sean Folsom

… I am hoping you do not think that the Uilleann Pipes are akin to, or as wussy as wine coolers.
