Are Y'all OK Up in the Northeast After Isabel?

Just wondering how everyone fared.

In central New Jersey, it’s windy but sunny and mild. A couple traffic lights out in my area. We got rain and wind, but nothing like when Floyd came through in 99’, thank goodness!

Here in southeastern Pennsylvania, we mostly did OK. Some folks are without power due to tree limbs coming down on the wires (including the area I just moved out of 2 months ago!). The worst I saw at my house or on the way in to work was some small branches (under an inch in diameter) down. A lot more people in the central part of the state, where the center of the storm went through, are without power. There was no major flooding, however, which is a very good thing. I suspect everything will be back to normal in a couple of days.

I was a little surprised how fast the storm went through. It was supposed to still be raining and windy much of today, at least by yesterday’s forecast, but when I got up this morning it was just mostly cloudy, with some blue sky, and a little breezy. The rain had stopped altogether, and there was no strong wind. And the weekend is supposed to be beautiful!

Whew!

Here in my part of Maryland there was little damage. In fact the wind wasn’t bad and there was not much rain. Around the area though there is flooding and power outages. It could have been much worse. However, there were 12 people killed in NC, VA and MD.

Up here in northern New York we need the rain, but the storm is just missing us, some wind and a little rain but not much.

Nothing at all really here in NY. I’m more concerned with the area we’ve vacationed the past few years - right at the tip of Hatteras in the Outer Banks. I’m still not sure how those folks fared; only heard that five people were missing and there was tremendous flooding.

I’m about 40 miles south of Celtoid, in upstate New York, and we did get some strong gusts today that took down some limbs and knocked power out in my village most of the day. I had to bring the stacking lawn chairs and inflatable splash pool into the kitchen to keep them from blowing away. The pool filled up the whole kitchen. It was strange weather to be out in, but didn’t cause any more than some minor inconvenience.

I have a business partner in Stafford, Virginia. I’m very concerned that she may have been hit by severe flooding. I won’t try to call until Monday or so, but I would like to know more about what’s happened there. I’ve searched the Internet, but the news reports haven’t been specific enough for me to have a clear idea about that location. If anyone has more information, I would appreciate it.

[edited to add] I called the Stafford County, Virginia Sheriff’s Department this morning and was told there’s no flooding or property damage incidents reported near my business partner’s address. Possibly no phone/power, though.

Best wishes,
Jerry
