Are there any online tune stores?

Living in a part of France where I cannot easily find celtic CDs, I am looking for some tunes/CDs available online.

I know that some CDs are available through the musicien’s own site but the problem are:

-not for all the musiciens
-payment is complicated for some sites
-not sure of availability of their CDs (if the site itself has not been modified for years)
-no extracts available (how can I know the music?)
-If I want to get only few tunes?

So, if there is anyone who can tell me useful site, please help me. Thank you in adavance.

I for one, I know these sites that we can buy by piece (track):

Go to the source! Since you are so close to Ireland, it should be relatively painless to order from there.

Claddagh: http://www.claddaghrecords.com/
Ossian: http://www.ossian.ie/
Custy’s: http://www.custysmusic.com/
Cló Iar-Connachta: http://www.cic.ie/
Gael Linn: http://www.gael-linn.ie/musicstore/
Folktrax: http://www.folktrax.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/
Irish Music by Mail: http://www.irishmusicmail.com/
Scoiltrad: http://www.scoiltrad.com/
Walton’s: http://www.waltonsmusic.com/

I have ordered over the internet from all of the above at least once, and had no problems.

Salut,

Thanks Aaron and djm for those links! And thanks for asking the question Tchie - I didn’t know about half of those.

On this same topic, any ITunes fans out there have much luck w/finding irtrad in the Apple Music Store? I did a bit of searching and as one would expect, not much in the way of independent releases out there. Found Grey Larsen’s CD’s, some Matt Molloy projects (Cheiftans, etc). Only found one Lunasa tune on a compilation CD. Word is, they’re constantly expanding their online catalog but, I wonder how long before a good selection of Irish music is out there?

I suppose some of the fun of ‘discovering’ this music could be lost. Tracking down and reading about some brilliant, now out-of-print CD (or tape, 78, etc) which you could order only from a little shop in Ennis is good fun, but it’d still be nice to have wider availabilty.

Cheers,

  • Ryan

Does anyone know what’s up with tradtunes.com? I stopped by there a couple times today, and all I’ve gotten has been a domain name page.

When I was in Brittany earlier this year, I came across a great little shop near the cathedral in Quimper.

They also do mail order.
