Tony and Johanna both like to take their Nintendo DSs with them when they travel. Last time we flew, however, the airline made a bit to-do about making sure that game units weren’t operating in wireless mode. None of us could figure out how, or even if there is a way, to disable wireless mode on a DS (note: they don’t play in wireless mode together, as a rule…they prefer to play individually). Does anybody out there know anything about this? They’ve got a long plane trip ahead of them in July, and they’re really going to want to be able to use those units if they can.
I’ll confess, I have a DS myself…had one before I bought my son one. You don’t have to turn off the wireless mode, but you do have to make sure not to start a game that has wireless in one of it’s wireless options.
The DS goes through several prompts asking things like: Connect to wireless, Are you sure you want to connect, etc. They just have to remember to only play single player games and you’ll be fine.
We both have DS units…it’s pretty hard, if not impossible, to accidentally go into wireless. You can tell when you are in wireless because the green LED blinks while the unit is open. If it’s solid green you’re fine.
They so rarely play anything that requires it, and were a bit taken aback when they heard the warning on the flight to Kentucky, especially when the flight attendant couldn’t tell them if their devices fell into that category.
I’m hoping they’ll soon build a shielded plane that won’t come crashing down in flames when someone turns on a small portable game system or a mobile phone.
