They are made in Australia, delrin mouthpiece and aluminium, and they have a reasonable cost. I listened to the sound : http://www.micksvirtualwhistle.net/whistle/index.html
and I liked it. Any owner around who can give an opinion and possibly compare it wih a Chieftain or a Burke ? Thanks
I have not owned or played the Syn low D. So ignore my comments if you like. I have owned several of Erle Barlett’s whistles, inlcuding a Syn high D from the original batch. I have a Lancewood high D that is a beaut. I have owned several Chieftains, high and low, but only the old style. I play Burkes, lots of them, many keys and all the materials. They are my “working” whistles (along with my own self-made whistles).
Each of Erle Barlett’s whistles that I have played have been well designed, well made and full of character. They are always interesting whistles. I prefer the Bartlett whistles to the Chieftains I have owned. I prefer the Burkes over the Bartletts I have owned and played. The Burke low D Viper is as nice as any low D I have played. But there is a lot of personal preference involved in these decisions. I would suggest you play each and make your decision based on your own needs and preferences. Workshops and festivals are a great place to meet whistlers and share whistles. Otherwise buy the first low D you run into from a reputable maker and get playing.

If you like it, get it. And if you like another brand later, get that one too. You’re allowed to own more than one. ![]()
The Syn low D is a very nice playing whistle. In terms of back pressure and tone character, it is much closer to the Burke end of the spectrum than the Chieftain end.
Doc
Hi Doc,
Thank you for your comment on the Syn.
Two days ago I ordered a Chieftain V3 that should arrive this Tuesday.
But for sure my next low D will be a Syn bought at the IrishFlutestore.
Cheers.
Actually, Doc,
I couldn’t wait and I just ordered the Syn low D from you !
So next week I will be the owner of TWO low D whistles.
Well, happy I am.
Cheers, Gerardo
There are no whistlers that have less than one whistle, and most have way more than two. ![]()
