A pointless topic, but whatever…
Which ones are your favourite Irish tunes?
Personal favourites of mine are “The Foggy Dew” and “Road to Lisdoonvarna”.

Hornpipe: Lad O’Beirne’s

Slide: Dark Girl in Blue (as played by Paddy Cronin)
Jig: The Platinum Ring (sentimental favorite)
Bonus Newfoundland tunes:
Single: Six-Handed Reel
Double: Payne’s Choice
Reel: Jim Hodder’s
What a perfectly meaningless yet vaguely nice way to pass the time until my emergency dentist appointment…
picking favorites is so hard… currently some favorites are:
Road to Errogie (in G, not B)
Tommy Mulhaire’s/Paddy McMahon’s (jigs)
The Silver Spire (reel)
Cuilfhionn
Dunmore Lassies (reel)
cheers,
Sara
That’s the one from Fit? (And the melody to “Corrievrechan”?) That’s a great tune.
yep, that one ![]()
Lately, when I want to entertain myself with a sweet tune, I play Tobin’s Favorite (or Favourite) followed by Tongs by the Fire, which don’t necessarily go together but I like 'em.
I really like Tobin’s, too.
I’m really enjoying this set of reels right now:
Blackthorne Stick/Lisdoonvarna
And I’ve become addicted to Fig for a Kiss.
Eric
Sligo Maid
The Holly Bush
We’re doing There She Goes with Tobin’s.
Other cliched favorites
Rights of Man
Trip to Kilavil
Wee Johnny
Wow - a good list of tunes.
I like:
Reels: Cup of Tea (with Silver Spear a VERY close 2nd)
Jigs: Milltown (with Ingenish a close 2nd - seemingly simple tune, but really nice)
Hornpipes: Off to California (just has great swing, I think anyway)
Slip Jigs: The Butterfly (but I also love Fig for a Kiss)
Polka: Britches Full of Stitches
Marches: Return from Fingal (as played by Lunasa)
Airs: Song of Kelpie (Solas) tied with The Parting of Friends (Matt Moloy)
Song: 3 Ravens by Malinky (unbelievable if you’ve not heard it!!)
All that said, ask me again in 6 months - it’s sure to change. ![]()
hmm at the moment
hornpipe- harvest home
jig- mug of brown ale
air - lament for the lost books, (favourite of them all)
cant really think of any others at the moment, those would have to the top 3, the rest I like but dont stand out as much
Reel: Cooley’s
Jig: The Blarney Pilgrim
Slip Jig: Sir Roger de Coverley
Polka: The Belfast Polka
Hornpipe: The Home Ruler (Daniel O’Connell)
Currently learning “The Magic Slipper”. Another Polka. Help! The Polkas are taking over! …where did all the slides go to?
Road to Errogie (in G, not B)
Sara, if you have an F flute/whistle you can finger it in G and still play along with Brian (or in my case, TRY to play along with Brian, but it’s great fun). ![]()
I’ve been unintentionally picking stuff off the John Skelton/ Kieran O’Hare disk lately. Those Lucy Farr jigs are . . . .luscious.

Oh, I love those; I need to get that CD back out! I also like the set with (I think this is the set, anyway) The Cow That Ate The Blanket as a jig and a reel, and then the Holloway Road Fling.
Those guys rock. Glad you like the disk! ![]()

Also barked my shins on The Four Posts of The Bed while noodling around at the session the other day; had forgotten completely about that one. Wheeeeeee!
