angle of flute and embouchure

hi , for the first time in months i played in front of a mirrior and was surprised to see how much of an angle i hold the flute at ( angle to the horizontal ). its well over 30 degrees , maybe nearly 45!
I also noticed that this affects my embouchure as the hole is over towards my right side as the angle of the flute pushes my bottom lip up on the left.
im happy with the tone I am heading towards after almost a year of playing so should i try to change anything?
should the embouchure be even or centralised at least?
thanks for the help.

Many, probably most, players are sloping at an angle. Seems to do no harm at all.

If it works, I suggest you don’t fix it.

I notice the same when playing in front of a mirror. I find my tone improving a bit when I move the flute up, but when I nod my head down to the right side to be “in line” with the flute, the tone also improves. Maybe it’s more a question what your neck prefers than what the flute needs…

thanks guys , i havent checked out the youtube link yet , at work.
can i just ask about embouchure , should it be a regular hole in the middle of your mouth or can it be irregularly shaped off centre!?

I’m not a teacher, but I wouldn’t worry about this.
If it works (as you suggest initially) it’s alright.
Finally the body makes adjustments embouchure-wise.
Just keep playing. If you want, experiment and
see if tone changes. But I think you’ll find
all of this sorts itself out in the next year.

Jean-Pierre Rampal played his flute at the steepest angle I’ve ever seen anyone use. I had the honor of meeting him once in his dressing room at a Los Angeles performance. I neglected to tell him he was doing it all wrong. Think how good he might have become!
