This is the flute that led me to find the Pratten Paul, l was actually looking for the headjoint to this flute a few weeks back when l discovered the Pratten under some violin cases etc. I actually bought this for George Ormiston who wanted it for key’s and bits and bobs, im suprised it was still there. As l said its not a keeper, im passing it on this week.
I asked the ‘very interesting’ gentlemen running the stall there about any other flutes they have etc, guy said they hav’nt got anything else but they do come and go now and then.
Paddys market isnt there anymore, so the barras is the only other place l think they might pop up.
I don’t know if you noticed, or if they were still there, a stall down there was a box full of concertina bits, some were lachenals(spelling?) which seem to go for a premium but although there seemed to be 3 or 4 concertinas, in pieces, I didn’t know enough to be able to estimate if there was one whole instrument there; also he was looking for £80, and this is a gentleman who will not budge on price, maybe someone got lucky, or not.
About a month ago I did pick up a wooden clarinet for £15, which with the exception of a couple of missing screws/rods is complete and with no cracks, can’t decide whether to sell it on as is or have it repaired and sell it, I know a very good, and reasonable, repair tech from my saxophone playing days; no hurry.
Looks like the RS Pratten is a nice fixer upper. That extra pillar mount touch that is missing was a stock item, saw it on a RS Pratten I worked on, maybe Dave Ogden can dig it out and post a photo.
