This weekend is the Al Purcell Irish Music Gathering in Ann Arbor. The focus is on uilleann piping, but they also have a whistle/flute workshop, which is being taught by Loretto Reid this year. I usually try to make it to Toronto take lessons from her, so it’s great to have her here in our backyard.
There are concerts Friday and Saturday night; Friday is mostly local talent (plus Seth Gallagher on pipes), and Saturday features Millish (with Tyler Duncan’s astonishing low whistle playing), Loretto Reid & Brian Taheny, piper Pat Hutchinson, and Finvarra’s Wren.
If you live anywhere within reasonable driving distance, this is well worth checking out.
