Acorn redesign?

I bought two Acorns, one for myself and one for a gift, the other day. I like the Acorn brand in general - they have a pretty nice sound and the tuning is consistently accurate.

However, I think they’ve changed slightly in the last 4 or 5 years. Comparing the new one to an old one (which belongs to my sister), the new one has a bulkier head, with a larger channel and less taper to the mouthpiece. The differences are subtle, but I’m pretty sure it’s an intentional (though slight) redesign.

The new one’s sound is somewhat louder, with more of an edge to it. I like the new version better overall, though the second octave seems slightly more finicky now. I’ll go fill the cavity in the head, see if that fixes it, and post back results.

I wish I could go play the other new one to see if it has the same properties, but unfortunately it’s encased in gelatin right now.

Does anyone else know anything about this?

About the whistle, about the gelatin, or the combination?

Steve

Well, I was referring to the whistle, specifically the new one in comparison to the old one, and whether anyone knows anything about the new “model”, and what people think of it.

Update on tweaking it: I can’t get the head off… so never mind.

A music store in a nearby city recently began carrying Acorns… I picked one up for the car… I see no difference, nor do I hear one, between this “new” whistle and the other two I’ve had for years…
