I hate to turn a certain hostile person into a psychic, but this is an important newsletter and announcement, so I’m going to not wait to show it to you. Please read this, especially if you have, or are waiting for, a Serpent Polly.
Happy October from Serpent Music!

The Good
Remember that the 25% discount on any whistle from Serpent Music is still available to newsletter members through the 14th of October. The discount is only on the base price of the whistle, but it’ll pay for decoration or special paint. And remember, the Holidays are coming!
The Bad
A couple of customers have mentioned that they are experiencing a bit of lip numbness when playing their new Serpent Polly. In both cases, the whistles had been painted according to the paint manufacturer’s instructions, and shipped immediately upon drying. One user said that her whistle still smelled a bit like lacquer thinner (nail polish remover, actually), but that the smell, along with the reaction, was lessening.
As a result of this, I’m going to add a week to the ship time of the Serpent Polly to allow for adequate drying and evaporation of the volatiles in the paint. The only alternative I see to this, is to purchase a heated drying cabinet, which is not financially feasible at this time, or to leave all of the mouthpiece ends unpainted. If you order a Polly, and want it quickly, you can specify an unpainted mouthpiece, and I will ship it that way.
If you have a Serpent Polly on order, and want it shipped with an unpainted mouthpiece, please email me ASAP. I’m painting the newest batch tomorrow (Thursday, October 2, 2003). It will not delay your whistle. If you want the entire whistle painted, please be patient, because I’m going to hold all those with painted mouthpieces for another week to ensure proper drying.
The materials used in the base (unpainted) Serpent Polly are:
Standard CPVC water pipe, ASTM approved for drinking water
Delrin plastic (fipple) - an inert plastic used in medical equipment and surgical implants
A special cyanoacrylate adhesive that releases no volatiles when cured, which takes about 35 minutes
Remember that all of my whistles are absolutely and unconditionally guaranteed. You can see the complete warranty here:

The Ugly
Mean people
Anybody who slobbers in your whistle and hands it back without shaking it out and wiping it
Bodhran players and fiddlers who insist on sitting right behind your head at a session. (see “Mean people”)
Serpent Polly wearing olive drab and puce. Don’t ask for this colour combo! ![]()
That’s it for this issue! Have fun, play music, (oops! Same thing! ![]()
