Ge 4:21
Jabal’s brother Jubal was the father of all who play the harp and flute.
Isa 5:26
He will lift up a banner to the nations from afar, And will whistle to them from the end of the earth; Surely they shall come with speed, swiftly.
Isa 7:18
And it shall come to pass in that day That the Lord will whistle for the fly That is in the farthest part of the rivers of Egypt, And for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.
Zec 10:8
I will whistle for them and gather them, For I will redeem them; And they shall increase as they once increased.
So far 3 or 3 references to “whistle” but I think they refer to mouth-blown (?) whistling, not through the medium called whistles. But maybe the Lord Himself will use a spiritual / transatlantic / universal Chieftain with a good chiff. Or a Cosmic Drainpipe.
On my side, I thought he qualified fully, being both an Irishman and musician.
As for the music style, some like it mummified, some alive…
In a lighter key:
“And it gave Jubal bread but he lusted for butter
And why not pastrami
So he was father again of all who do business
And let their brothers do the hard work
And Tubalcain said ok and coppersmithed the father of all tin whistles
So Jubal endorsed it and took the royalties
And Jabal bought it and thought it was good but not quite
And was the father of all who raise whoa’ and methinks llamas too”
FYI-The possibility of Spillane teaching a pipe building class at the College next year was suggested and discussed (the College is five days long)…
Ich bin der Bloke. Allso Gudrun ist des Bloke flute, kapitu?
This being the last time I attempt using my lousy German for anything else than ordering a meal. And even that is risky…
Last time I ordered a whistle, I got Gudrun instead…
Hey, this is SO good, let me recap for those who’ve lost the thread:
Roger O’Keeffe said: “Ich dachte, du wärst der flute bloke. Oder war das im Freudschen Sinne gemeint?”
Which Babel (online translation service) translates as: ‘I thought, you waerst flood bloke. Or was meant in the Freud sense?’
To which Zubivka replied: "Ich bin der Bloke. Allso Gudrun ist des Bloke flute, kapitu? "
(Babel again: ‘I am the Bloke. Allso Gudrun is the Bloke floods, cape International Telecommunication Union’)!!!
Then emmline with the pithy repost: “Oje! Der telefon klingelt, und der schwamm ist nicht nass!”
(Babel once more: ‘Oje! That telephone rings, and did not swim is wet!’)
I do hope that helps.
Now - what’s all this stuff about Mickey Spillane again? He whistles?
