A Crush on the Concertina...

…is what I have. I heard Patrick Street recently and could not get over Jackie Daly’s playing. So now I want to buy one and learn it. Brands to seek? To avoid? What do I have to spend to get a good one? Tell me all your concertina secrets! :smiling_imp:

If you haven’t yet, go to http://www.concertina.net and poke around a little. They have excellent “FAQ” files there. (And forums too!)

Not trying to discourage you from playing the Concertina (since it is a wonderful instrument) but I didn’t think Jackie played the concertina with Patrick Street (though I know he can). He just usually plays his accordion really dry. I agree though that to hear Jackie play is to want to learn to play his music.

It may be considered an accordian–that’s how little I know. It was a button instrument of square shape, and I later learned it was made by Saltarelle.

That is indeed an accordion.

That’s the “Box” or the “button accordian”, go for it.

Edgley concertinas are made by Frank Edgley here in Windsor Ontairo, Canada. I know Frank personally, but I don’t play the concertina.

Frank brought one of his new concertinas to the session last night, to give a wurl. It sounded just lovely. Check him out.

Oh! Ask Avanutria (aka Beth) she bought one of Edgley’s before she went to Ireland this summer and has posted about it.

Sorry to take a concertina thread and ask a box question but I thought it was better than a new topic for all you box haters.
Im looking to purchase a high quality B/C accordion. I really want a cairdin and i was wondering if anyone had a used one for sale or any other high quality accordions. Thanks
