A chanter

I am considering getting hold of a concert pitch chanter, and ran across the MacLellan chanter in A. Has anyone had experience with one of these? If not, is there another stick out there that someone can recommend? My trio plays in concert pitch, and it may be fun sometime to pull out the GHB in a gig for kicks.

Mr. Moderator, I know this is not specifically uilleann in nature, unless you consider that it would be playing uilleann piping tunes with folks who always accomany the uilleann pipes… played by an uilleann piper… who may even still be wearing bellows, and thinking of the uilleann pipes whilst playing the A chanter…

… plus noone in the other forum has helped.

… you may call me Evil Dude, my father is Mr. Moderator.

No probs buddy.

I feel that if you really want to make it tough on your band mates, get a C# chanter… or is that not what you wanted?

I realize your looking for a highland pipe chanter. But has anyone ever made an A uilleann pipe chanter?

I have and use the McLellan A chanter.

I regularly fill in with Seven Nations and Rathkeltair and have used it in both instances. Let me first warn you that is it quite difficult to reed. It is nowhere as easy to reed as the McLellan Bb version. Ive been using McCanns and Higgis, and getting decent results. The main problem is a High A crow that is difficult to remedy. However, it does have its uses. I guess it just depends on how much you’re planning on using it. Hamish Moore’s A chanter is better hands down, but to me it wasnt worth the cost and the wait.

I’d recommend getting the A chanter from http://www.hotpipes.com/A440chanter.html

Good luck, Will

Yes

I’d have to recommend Hamish Moore’s highland A chanter. Very easy to reed: EzeeDrone makes a chanter reed specifically for it.

I’ve actually got a set of Hamish’s highland pipes pitched in A . . . the whole setup is phenomenal.
