5 for the price of 3

Okay, got some less expensive whistles left to clear out before I start putting the high end stuff on ebay, so here’s the, I’m selling the following 4 whistles and one recorder (don’t ask) as a package deal for $30, shipping included - here they are:

Black Acorn D
Clare 2 piece D
Walton’s “Amercan Pennywhistle” D
Sweetone “Celtic” D
Yamaha Soprano Recorder model YRS-20BP
All are in excellent condition, most practically new. I’ve barely played them - personally, I prefer expensive whistles…

Anyway, the Clare and Waltons are brass, Acorn is obviously black, the Sweetone is a very cool looking dark green with metal flake in the finish and a little Celtic Knot painted just below the mouthpiece, and the Yamaha is hot neon pink (I said don’t ask!!!)
This is a cool little collection of inexpensive whistles, drop me an e-mail if interested.

I also still have a very nice Water Weasel Bb for sale -$60 includes shipping and insurance.

Now I know some folks won’t believe this but: At one point I had in front of me this same WW Bb (plus the A I’ve already sold), a Delrin Abell A/Bb set, and a Blackwood Abell A/Bb set. After playing them one after the other, for the better part of a half hour, I was convinced that the Water Weasels sounded and played just as good as the Abells in those keys, and the WW clogged a whole lot less, well not at all actually, while the Abells clogged constantly (Only the A/Bb Abells I’ve tried had this clogging problem, the other keys are fine, how odd…)

In the end, I shipped both of the Abell sets back to Chris for a refund, seeing no need to spend that much money for whistles that didn’t sound or play (IMO) any better than my Grey PVC Water Weasels. It’s been discussed here before, but there seems to be something magical about the grey PVC Glenn uses for the A and Bb Water Weasels…It produces a tone unmatched by the white/cream colored PVC/CPVC (or whatever) used to make the other WW keys, although those are mighty fine whistles as well.

Whoa, way more than I intended to write, need to run. Contact me via e-mail with any questions regarding these whistles.

Thanks!

Loren

okay, I’ll take them, but with a few provisions,
paint the pink one black,
and the green one,
oh and the brass ones.
See, I am an undercover whistler and only play at night in the dark, I like to walk about and pretend to be gales of wind , car alarms etc but have to remain camoflaged.
Send them to my address

Loren - I too noticed a difference in the grey PVC ww and I love it. The red plastic fipple makes it a mystical keeper as well. But that said it sounds nothing remotely like the Abell Bflat/A set I just got from David. They are truly gorgeous, easy playing, wondrously sounding instruments. I will post sound clips of the Grinters, Abells, Seery and Reyburn (when I get it)as soon as the kitchen is finished and my daughter selects her high school. Gotta go. Philo

I was a huge fan of the Generation Bb. When I first got the WW Bb, I was rather taken aback; it was nothing like I was expecting. After about a week, I came to appreciate it, and I would rate it among the best of the WW’s, along with the low-G and the E recently acquired from Loren.

It might not be for everybody, though – As someone pointed out recently, it has a lot of characteristics of a low whistle. I like having both the Gen and the WW – the Gen sounds more traditional, the WW is a dream to play, and has a sound that fits a lot of tunes.

Charlie

The WW Bb is spoken for.

Phil O.,

I knew someone was going to say the WW and Abell sound nothing alike  I specifically DIDN’T say they sounded alike - What I said (and meant) was that I thought the WW sounded and played just as good as the Abell and clogged less. No, they don’t sound the same, I agree.

Charlie,

Yup, I agree with you that the WW A and Bb whistles have more of a low whistle character than many other A Bb whistles, perhaps that’s why I like them so much

Loren

I agree completely with the WW Bb conclusions so far. I think the reason for the low whistley sound of the Bb has to do with the wall thickness of the grey PVC. In fact here’s a snippet from an email Glenn sent me after I’d written him praising the Bb:

the wall thickness of the
grey stuff may have something to do with the tone, for the wedge-tongue has
that much more sidewall to deal with.

That being said, my other favorite Bb’s are my old-style Generations, which are the nicest Generations I have (which says a lot).
