Dear all,
I’ve been to a lot of makers’ sites and seen many, many very nice-looking photos of full sets. But the full sets all had three regs. Since I’ve cruised around some of D’Arcy’s pics and other non-maker sites, I’ve seen some sets with four regs and even five. But they were all older sets, I think. My question is this: are there any makers now making 4 and 5 regulator sets?
-Thanks,
Luke
Alain Fromment comes to mind. Chris Bailey comes to mind as well, Brad Angus too.
Most makers can make as many regs as you can dream up (and pay for) typically at ~$1K per reg. How many do you want? Most of the old-time sets with more than three regs were pared back down to just the basic three as common sense and the practicality of trying to carry and maintain that many regs eventually sank in.

5 regs? I have nightmares about things like that. ![]()

Pretty insane if you ask me. I say why not, if that’s what you really want.
5 regs and 4 drones!
That can definitely vary, though. Some makers go as high as $2,000 (or even 2,000 euros!) for bass regs. Furat emptor.
7 keys on the chanter. 5 regulators. That’s a monster set. It’s thought to be a Coyne. Not for the faint of heart.
