Here’s a live demo of 3QuarterSet 1.0 using my Benedict Koehler chanter in a practice set configuration, with the iPhone on a foam block attached via a velcro wrap around my leg:
Exactly my thoughts. Great idea, Michael. No warbling, no tuning issues - and you save several grands and weight. You could buy an iphone for each pitch. Hmmm… Michael, distance between keys is much smaller than with a real set, right? How do you cope with that. And do the sounds of amplified drones/regs an unamplified chanter mix well?
I have a few people beta testing it now. I hope to have it on the iTunes App Store by Christmas, all depends on the Apple approval process and how it goes in beta.
Just to be clear, you don’t need an iPhone to use the program, an iPod Touch also works quite nicely, and the second generation Touch has a built in speaker. Most likely, either would be best used plugged into an external amp.
Amazing. This could be useful for people with practice sets who either can’t afford or are waiting for drones and regs, and having the drones will help beginners learn how to play the chanter in tune.
Is it possible to get any of the diagonal chords, or do you just have the cross chords?
Since someone was recently talking about a C&F prize, I’d like to nominate Michael for one for everything else he’s done to help people learn uilleann pipes and Irish traditional music in general. Over the years I’ve e-mailed Michael questions about things brought up on the Forum and he has always been very helpful, courteous and quick in his replies. I’ve purchased two of the things that he’s talked about on the Forum – a Peterson V-SAM tuner and Transcribe software – and they have helped me a lot in this endeavor. Congratulations and thanks again!
