Here, again is the series showing Venus’ retrograde motion:

Venus’ mechanism of retrogression is different from that of Mars because Venus’ orbit is inside the Earth’s orbit, so you’re actually seeing Venus’ path around the sun, going one direction when it’s between the sun and the Earth and going the other direction when the sun is between the Earth and Venus.
