I’m getting my half-set completely re-reeded. I was a klutz and cracked my chanter reed. I also have never been super happy with two out of the three drone reeds. I have a second chanter with a medium-ish/less wide bore and medium holes. What I’d like to do is have the drones reeded to be balanced with this chanter and have the wide-bore chanter reeded so that it’s close enough to the medium one in volume to not sound (or blow) too far out of balance from the drones.
In general, the specific aspects of the chanter itself non-withstanding, what should I ask for as far as a reed for the wide-bore chanter? I’m referring to specific reedmaker’s terms so that I can convey it best to the maker without him having to try and figure out what I want exactly or end up with something I don’t like! I’m hoping that the wide-bore will be close to the medium-ish in volume, but without sacrificing tuning or “bite”/responsiveness/clarity etc. …reason #235 that I need to learn reedmaking…if only I could make it to a tionol… ![]()
Thanks in advance…
