If I were a set of pipes I would want to live in Cap’n Morgan’s pipecase. It is a good size (for a heavy-duty case) and he has customized it to a T. Dan, you could go pro any day
Thanks, Tommykleen, I could probably make it fit you…but I don’t know if I could squeeze your mojo in too…besides, that’s not something I want to be caught carrying around!
My half set is 30" long with the bass drone slide pushed in.
Remove the bass drone slide (a reasonably normal thing to do, when putting a set in its case), and it’s only 27".
Even a full set with non-detachable bass bar should fit in a 35" case - including C# and C sets. Maybe a B set with non-detachable bass bar would be difficult, without removing the baritone slide as well.
That’s a great idea, now that I am seeing what is really being said, and not what my mind saw… creepy.
Is there a ‘brand of choice’ for the breakdown cases, or should I scouer my local outdoorsy store for one? The aluminum sided ones seem like they’d be nice and sturdy
I have a hard case to keep the pipes protected. It is actually a shakuhachi case that happens to be a perfect fit for the pipes.
I use a Ritter tenor saxophone bag for shorter journeys.
It fits the pipes very well and it has many pockets for ding dangs and doo whippies.
I keep my chanters in GHB practice chanter soft cases, which fit snugly into the long pocket on the side of the bag. In addition to a handle to carry it like a sports bag, it has shoulder straps like a ruck sack.
The bag is light, strong, water-proof and people realise it is a musical instrument and treat it with care.
A soft bag may not be for everyone, but I’m very pleased with it.
Bill, the cases I was looking at were about 34" clear inside and 4" high. At the time, I owned a Childress full set and it was too long to fit. If I recall, I would have had to unplug the entire bass drone to make things work. Also the hose had to be removed from the bellows fitting.
