Yay!!! It was difficult, but I have my LOW D!!!!

yay, yay and more yay! lmao.
I have my first low D!! It’s a Susato Kildare, very beautiful, nice tone.
What surprised me a bit is that I though that I would be able to take it and play it without problems and no! Although I don’t have much trouble with the piper’s grip (I need it without doubts), holes are pretty big, mainly that R2, it’s HUGE!
And I realized that it takes much less air than the majority of my Susato high whistles, is it normal? The bell note isn’t that strong.

Oh, and I have a new Susato high E as well

Regards,
Martin

Congratulations on your Kildare.

You prised it off the customs Gestapo then

Cheers

Thanks Nick!

Seeing what happened with customs, I won’t buy another whistle from internet anymore. It’s crazy to pay 2 low D’s instead of one just because people in customs are robbers.
I’m moving to Israel in a few months, I hope being there I can buy through internet without paying more than a ‘reasonable’ 20% or 30% at a maximum.

Can’t be any worst :boggle: , can it :astonished:

I have two Susato low D’s and a Susato low C and the bell notes are strong on them. These are good whistles for the old-style flutey honking playing, but are also lovely for airs etc.
It’s odd that Susato only offers the low C with keys now, as mine in an older one which is keyless and the finger stretch isn’t so bad.
One of my low D’s and the low C have the bent neck which I think is a great feature. I dont’ think they offer the bent neck now.

This is my first low D and I’ve never played one before, so maybe it’s me (very probable). If I just try to play a bottom D I can push it quite a bit without breaking to the 2nd octave, but I find it difficult to play, for example, a jig o a reel which is going through the first and second octave, like Cooley’s. Those FDAD BDAD FDAD are so difficult!. Anyways, in a first instance I realized that I wasn’t covering the holes well, after practicing about 5 continous hours yesterday (I’m crazy!), today I can play a bit better, but I still have problems with that. It’s ridiculous to think that everyone’s Susato low D play well and mine plays bad, I know it’s me, lol.
I love this style WhistleThis.com is for sale | HugeDomains and I thought that I’d be able to push the notes like that without breaking the octave, but I realized that I can’t :sniffle:
Ok, I know that the Shaw low D requires a lot of air and mahanpots is a very good player, whatever! :smiling_imp:
