Are you after a flat chanter, or a D chanter? Thereās a very good Evertjan tāHart chanter for sale on Uilleann obsession:
http://www.uilleannobsession.com/classifieds.html#172
āEvertjan tāHart D Chanter in acid stained box, imitation ivory and brass with 3 keys (C, F, and G) and a stop key. Made in the style of the late Dave Williams of course. Lovely chanter, nice reedy and meaty tone off itā.
Thereās also a Wooff narrow bore D set up for sale too
I contacted Tom yesterday and he has a concert pitch chanter in his shop for sale. The description by Tom:
āI have a new Model 2009 (Kennedy-ish bore) ebony, boxwood mounts, 3 brass keys (F, G#, C), block for 4th key (Bb - not recommended), large finger holes, slim line un-scalloped, left over for change of ordered mode. Bright tone, and perfect tuning.ā
For more info I would contact Tom at info(at)abei-flutes(dot)com
Why do pipemakers make these claims? Donāt they realise that we know itās not true .
RORY
Dear Rory,
I had the chance to try a chanter made by Tom with the same design as this one, and I can tell you that it was certainly the most āin tuneā chanter I never tried!
The two E were perfects, as the C/C#, high A and B perfects⦠I think itās THE chanter!
Regards.
Rory,
A good friend of mine has this style chanter.
If you havenāt heard it, you simply wonāt āgetā it. It is remarkably in tune!
I know Iām probably being considered overly pedantic but if your going to use certain words in the description of pipes that you are selling you have to stand by the meaning of those words. Any experienced woodwind instrument player will tell you ,that when it comes to tuning the word" perfect" can not be applied to any instrument.
RORY
Donāt consider me overly pedantic, but perfection is possible in spelling and grammar. You said "but if your [sic] going to use certain words . . . ". I believe you meant āyouāreā.
Yes, thanks for that ,I must admit my spelling and grammar is(or is that are) terrible. I know its no excuse but I left school when I was sixteen and my lack of education sometimes lets me down, but I do always try to pick my words carefully.
But just to add as an after thought, Iāve no desire nor am I claiming to be perfect.
We get enough creative advertising in the media ,its just a shame we now have it in the piping world
RORY
Iām mainly looking for an Aebi D chanter and a b or bflat chanter by Wooff.
So if someone has a Wooff b /bflat chanter that needs to be sold send me a pm.
